Sarah Hyland proudly showed off her new scars as she enjoyed the sun.

The Modern Family star - who was recently admitted to hospital where she received medical treatment for an unknown condition - stripped down to her bikini to enjoy the hot weather.

She captioned the photo, which she posted to Instagram: '#scarsondisplay.'

Sarah previously revealed she had to be 'torn from work' to receive medical treatment, even though she didn't want to take a break from her job.

She said at the time that she was 'very grateful' to have been looked after because her health is a priority.

The brunette beauty shared a candid photo of herself in a hospital gown and wrote: 'Sometimes a selfie is more than just a good angle or feelin cute,' she started off.

'This time for #nationalselfieday I've decided to share my truth. As painful as it is. So here is my face that was torn from work against my will. But I'm very grateful it was. Health should ways come first #stayhealthymyfriends (sic)'

And then there were four: The pals did their best Charlie's Angels pose holding candy canes

She also shared a video of her dog licking her face, which had been filmed shortly before she was taken to hospital.

The Scary Movie star added: 'This was taken this past Sunday. Day before hospitalization. She was literally telling me to get treatment. Can't wait to come back to my precious angel princess. She's perfect and knows exactly what I need at all times.'

It is not known why Sarah underwent treatment but she has been open about her health struggles in the past.

The New York native revealed she was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia as a child and received a kidney transplant in 2012.
