Keri Russell 'in talks' to join Star Wars: Episode IX which would reunite her with her Felicity director JJ Abrams
Keri Russell may be joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX.
On Friday Variety reported the 42-year-old actress, who is coming off TV's smash hit The Americans, is in talks to star in the 2019 movie with director JJ Abrams as well as returning stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver.
Russell's part is an action role but that is about all that has been revealed as her character name and description are still being kept a secret. It is not even known if she is aligned with the rebels or the First Order.
Will she join the Force? Keri Russell may be joining the cast of the next Star Wars film, which so far has been called Star Wars: Episode IX; seen in March
Her old pal: On Friday Variety reported the 42-year-old actress, who is coming off TV's smash hit The Americans, is in talks to star in the 2019 movie with director JJ Abrams. Here they are seen in 2017
Russell is used to doing action scenes as she had several in The Americans.
Many actresses were seen for the role, according to the site, but Abrams and LucasFilm settled on Keri earlier this week.
Filming begins at the end of July.
Russell and Abrams have worked together in the past: Abrams cast her in his TV series Felicity and he also worked her into the 2006 Tom Cruise film Mission: Impossible III.
First project: JJ cast the actress in his TV show Felicity, which launched in 1998; seen with Scott Foley, Tangi Miller and Scott Speedman
And then the big time: Abrams then gave her a co-starring role with Tom Cruise in the 2006 film Mission: Impossible III
Abrams is being brought back into the franchise after he made The Force Awakens and after Rian Johnson won poor reviews for The Last Jedi.
Colin Trevorrow was expected for a while to direct IX but was released over 'creative differences.'
JJ will be both writing and directing IX.
Abrams has two more actors to cast before filming begins, according to Variety.
In December Fantha Tracks reported Star Wars IX already has a working title: Black Diamond.
Black Diamond is not the title of IX but is rather a working title that production used to identify the film internally.
He's back: Abrams is being brought back into the franchise after he made The Force Awakens; here is a shot from the film that starred John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Harrison Ford
He did well: Force Awakens was a box-office dynamo and critics liked it too; the stars seen with droid BB-8
The Last Jedi's working title was Space Bear and Rogue One's working title was Los Alamos.
According to Fantha Tracks, the production company for Episode IX is Carbonado Industries (UK) Ltd. A carbonado is the toughest form of natural diamond, commonly known as a Black Diamond. It’s too early to tell whether or not Episode IX‘s working title bears any significance to the plot of the movie.
This will be the final sequel in the trilogy that began with The Force Awakens and continued with The Last Jedi.
The film is set to come out in the US on December 20, 2019.
There could also be special appearances by the ghosts of Yoda and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
The movie that started it all: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Ford in 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope
