But on Thursday Mischa Barton decided to step out for a relatively mundane trip to the grocery store in Los Angeles.

The 32-year-old O.C. actress kept things quite relaxed sartorially, opting for a black zip-up hoodie and matching trousers.

A simple white t-shirt and yellow flip flops completed her laid-back ensemble.

Her caramel tresses were parted in the middle and pulled back into a loose ponytail, while her youthful visage appeared to be make-up free.

She apparently decided to forgo a purse, and instead carried her phone and a bottle of water in one hand, while toting her grocery bag in the other.

Mischa was without her hunky Australian model boyfriend James Abercrombie, who she was first linked with over the summer last year after they were spotted together in Los Angeles.

The actress rose to fame as a child star with roles in 1999 films Notting Hill and the Sixth Sense.

Her career was then propelled into the stratosphere with her breakthrough role as rich girl Marissa Cooper in teen drama The O.C. from 2003-2006.

During an interview with Dr. Phil in April last year, the London native opened up about misconceptions on her personality, as fans frequently compared her to the fictional character.

Mischa said: 'People really confused the character with the person and maybe because of all the fame around that time ... one of the biggest misconceptions that I'm a spoiled rich girl.'

'People find it convenient, they attach you to one particular thing. So I suppose that. And yeah, the fact that people think I'm crazy. That's another good one.'

The St Trinian's actress has since acted in a number of chart-topping movies, and is set to star in the upcoming drama film The Cat and the Moon, alongside comedian Mike Epps and Dude star Alex Wolff.
