A drunk-driving suspect attacked and injured a Wisconsin police officer whose bodycam recorded the incident on July 4.

Deputies were responding to reports of a reckless driver going 25mph over the speed limit and weaving 'all over the road' near Union Grove, about 30 miles outside of Wisconsin.

They came across Dmitry Zellmer, 20, stopped on the side of Highway 11 leaning out of his car.

Bodycam footage shows the officers questioning Zellmer, who stands up and turns around as if he's going to allow them to cuff him before starting to beat one of the deputies.

The unidentified officer can be seen falling to the ground as Zellmer continues attacking him.

They were eventually able to get control of the 20-year-old and place him under arrest.

Zellmer has been charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence, resisting an officer and causing substantial bodily harm/soft tissue injury to an officer.

'Things turned south pretty quickly,' Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling told FOX6

'When he was asked to come out, you can see it in his eyes, he was not willing to give up his night of partying and he became violent.'

 'It's absolutely unreal.'

The officer suffered a knee injury and was taken to a hospital, but Schmaling said he was back on the job the following day.

Zellmer made an initial court appearance on July 5, and is scheduled for another hearing on July 12.
