Riverdale's Lili Reinhart hits back at critics who questioned her body dysmorphic disorder

She's been a vocal advocate for body positivity.

And on Tuesday Lili Reinhart decided to hit back at critics who seemed to be implying she was being disingenuous when discussing her body dysmorphic disorder.

The 21-year-old Riverdale actress took to Twitter to respond to fellow users who didn't believe that her body-type allowed her to speak about body dysmorphia.

'Feeling really disheartened by the fact that so many people are saying 'you're skinny so shut up about embrscing [sic] your body,' she stated in a wordy post.

'As if my body dysmorphia is irrelevant because of how I look to some people. I'm either not curvy enough or not skinny enough to feel insecure.'

She went on to link the apparently unfair criticism with her overall mental health.

'Mental illness gets worse when people say that you don't have a right to feel the way you do. That's where we are dailing [sic]. Do not encourage this behavior. It is destructive. More destructive than you'll ever realize. You may not understand someone's insecurity- but respect it.'

The row began when Lili retweeted a link to her new Harper's Bazaar shoot, which saw her don several outfits channeling old Hollywood.

'Marilyn Monroe was a curvy girl: she had boobs and she didn't have a 24-inch waist. To me that's really inspiring and makes me feel like my body can be accepted,' she said in an accompanying quote.

Some of her followers didn't agree with her message, however. @abelsbbygirl responded 'y'all need to stop letting girls built like Gigi Hadid a platform to talk about how their bodies 'aren't accepted' like they're not the industry standard. it's tiring.'

Surprisingly, Lili then responded to @abelsbbygirl with 'My body is not like hers. Thought that was quite obvious. Insecurity exists outside the limits of a certain dress size. You're not helping the problem.'

In a mini tweetstorm, she went on to lambaste her critic, and explain how her own body type shouldn't matter.

'Telling someone they don't deserve to feel insecure because their body is 'fine' or 'just like' whomever.. is wrong. That's part of the problem. That's part of body shaming.'
