This Week's Message

"I hear that the art museum has a large collection of works, but I don't know how I can incorporate them in my classes."

"I don't even know what the art museum has in its collections."

"Wait. We have an art museum?"

If you see yourself in any of these statements above, put this week's Friday Conversation on your calendar. The Augustana Teaching Museum of Art's collections include over 4200 objects, and one of the primary functions of these objects is to augment the curriculum of the College. How, you ask? Well that is what this FriCo will start to answer. I will review the new database (http://augustanaart.pastperfectonline.com/) which allows you to explore the collections; bring a few lesser known, but very interesting works from the collections, so that you can get a sense of the breadth of the collection; share some ideas on how art can be utilized in unexpected ways in the classroom; and brainstorm with attendees about how the collections can be used in their classes.

I hope to see you on Friday.

Cheers,

Claire Kovacs
Director, Augustana Teaching Museum of Art
