Dwayne Johnson is 'awestruck' for being named by Forbes as the highest-paid actor with $124M

Dwayne Johnson has been named the highest-paid actor.

Forbes claimed the 46-year-old Skyskraper star raked in $124 million last year, making him the world's fifth highest paid celebrity.

Though George Clooney made more than Johnson - who also goes by The Rock - most of the former ER star's money came from the sale of his tequila company and not from Hollywood.

'Wow unexpected news,' began The Rock on Twitter.

'I don't have a Harvard MBA, but my business philosophy has been sharpened over time and thru failure.

'I have one boss I serve and connect with - the world and the people in it. I'm the dude who started w/ $7bucks. I'm awestruck ($124M) grateful & hungry,' he concluded.

Thanking his fans on social media was a fitting move from the superstar, as Forbes attributed much of his recent success to his social media presence.

The outlet reported, Johnson now receives a 'separate seven-figure social media fee with every movie in which he appears,' which comes on top of him already collecting '$20 million up-front' and 'cuts of back-end studio profits.'

All of it added up to the semi-retired professional wrestler making almost double what he did the year before, $65 million—when he was already the world's highest paid actor.

A drop: It wasn't all good news for The Rock this week, however, as his new movie, Skyscraper, crumbled at the box office. The new flick finished third after its first week in theaters, pulling in a disappointing $25.5 million—well below the $40 to $60 million it was initially projected to

The publication also explained, 'His acting earnings last year—the vast majority of his $124 million haul—are the largest ever recorded in the 20 years Forbes has tracked the Celebrity 100.'

The overall haul found the San Andreas actor finishing fifth amongst celebrities, behind Floyd Mayweather ($285 mil in pretax annual earnings), Clooney ($239 mil), Kylie Jenner ($166.5 mil), and Judge Judy Sheindlin ($147 mil).

But, nonetheless, Johnson has plenty to be thankful for, as he just welcomed a third daughter, Tiana, into the world in April.
