Alec Baldwin is confronted by a waitress outside Hollywood restaurant after appearing to forget to pay his bill

His numerous roles have won him an army of fans, but Alec Baldwin appeared to do something completely out of character during a night out in Hollywood on Tuesday evening.

The American star was pursued by an anxious looking waitress as he made his way out of popular local restaurant Craig’s after seemingly forgetting to pay his bill.

Baldwin, 60, appeared to be confronted with the bill as he settled into the rear of his waiting car, and promptly brandished a credit card before hurriedly signing his receipt.

The actor, who was without wife Hilaria, looked casual in a black T-shirt and matching trousers during his latest appearance in Los Angeles.

Baldwin has been delighting fans and infuriating the White House in equal measure with his accurate portrayal of US President Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live. 

But while Trump's feelings about the parody are frequently made clear on social media, where he is an active tweeter, the actor has playfully asked First Lady Melania Trump to appear alongside him on the show.

Baldwin extended the invitation on social media after Trump's Slovenia-born wife inappropriately wore a fern green Zara coat baring the slogan, 'I really don't care, do u?' amid a trip to McAllen, Texas to see migrant children who'd been separated from their parents on the US border.

He wrote, 'Dear Melania- We know what you're thinking. What you're feeling. You are quaking w anticipation. Shuddering w a strange, newfound courage.'

The Academy Award nominee urged the 48-year-old first lady, 'Come. Come over to the light.

The politically-engaged entertainer - who won an Emmy last fall for his impression of the 45th president - signed the tweet, 'Sincerely, Alec.'

Baldwin also tweeted an 11-year-old shot of himself standing alongside Melania, writing, 'We have a chair waiting for you in the @nbcsnl make-up room.'

The actor has emerged as one of Hollywood's loudest voices to regularly speak out against Trump, both through his performances as well as remarks over the past few years, calling the commander-in-chief 'a sexual predator' while speaking to the LA Times last fall about the epidemic of sexual harassment and abuse in Hollywood.
