Aidan Turner jokes with fans as he is met by adoring mob after another intense performance in The Lieutenant Of Inishmore

He is currently wowing audiences with his portrayal of an unhinged Irish terrorist in The Lieutenant Of Inishmore.

And Aidan Turner was clearly in high spirits as he stepped out to meet a mob of adoring fans outside the Noel Coward Theatre after another intense performance on Tuesday.

The Poldark star, 35, looked absolutely delighted to meet with the theatregoers, as he laughed and chatted with the congregation whilst signing their programmes.

Aidan's fans rushed to the front as he left the stage door, and they stood as close to the barrier as possible in order to get the perfect picture.

But the Being Human actor took his time, making sure to sign as much as possible for the devoted mass so that they wouldn't be disappointed.

Speaking to each of them in turn, the actor seemed more than happy to get to know his fans as he signed things one by one.

Dressed in a simple white T-shirt and navy denim jeans, the actor looked ruggedly handsome as his shirt hung loosely on his muscular torso.

Aidan looked dapper with his close-cropped beard and his messy raven tresses, which sat in tight curls on his head.

After signing for fans, the Hobbit star trudged through the streets in a pair of sharp suede boots as he toted a brown holdall bag on his shoulder.

The piece, set in 1993 on the island of Inishmore, County Galway, was first performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2001 and was created by Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri director Martin McDonagh.

Aidan plays Padraic, a young, unhinged terrorist who returns home and goes on a murderous rampage when he discovers his cat, who he refers to as his 'best friend in the whole world', has been killed.

In true Martin McDonagh style, everything descends into chaos as Padraic storms back into his father Donny's (Denis Conway) home, and tries to exact his revenge but is then interrupted when fellow terrorists turn up on his doorstep.

Very different: Talking to The Daily Mail last year, he said of the role: ¿It¿s the furthest I can get from Ross Poldark that I can possibly imagine¿

‘I think people will be surprised,’ the actor told the Daily Mail last year, while on a short break from filming the fourth — and penultimate — series of the top-rated BBC television Sunday night drama Poldark.

‘It’s the furthest I can get from Ross Poldark that I can possibly imagine.’

The first — and last — time Turner appeared on the London stage was as a British soldier in the Abbey Theatre’s production of The Plough And The Stars at the Barbican, back in 2005.

Aidan can also currently still be seen on the small screen in the fourth series of Poldark, which is airing on BBC One.
