Cher says she was 'frightened' to film Mamma Mia sequel with such a close-knit 'family' cast
She plays the feisty matriarch Ruby Sheridan in Mamma Mia's much-anticipated sequel, Here We Go Again.
But Cher has now revealed that she was 'frightened' to join the stellar cast, as she felt they were already 'a family' following the first flick in 2008.
Despite being a superstar in her own right, the Believe singer, 72, admitted she was very nervous for her first day on set - but that her co-stars were nothing but welcoming, with Meryl Streep even confessing she was a fan.

Speaking to Chris Evans on BBC Radio 2, she recalled of her first day: 'Oh I was frightened.
'Frightened because I’m always nervous, but to go into a group that are friends, who were delighted to see each other and talking about old stories... I was thinking, are we gonna bond? Are they gonna stick together?'
However her woes were immediately cast aside, with the star continuing: 'But they were so lovely to me, it was like I had been in the first movie.'

Big fan: However she said the cast made her feel like she'd been in the first film - and that she even found a new fan in Oscar-winning actress Meryl (pictured together at the premiere)
She even confessed she had found a new fan in Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep, adding: 'And when I was singing Fernando - I think I did it on the second day - Meryl was hiding! As she didn't want me to see her watching.'
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again follows Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) trying to run her mother Donna's (Meryl) villa in Greece whilst pregnant, as she finds out more about her past.
Cher plays Sophie's previously unseen grandmother and Meryl Streep's reluctant mother Ruby Sheridan, while Lily James plays a young Donna during her time with three lovers - Sam (Jeremy Irvine), Harry (Hugh Skinner), and Bill (Josh Dylan).

Discussing why the film works so well a second time, Cher said: 'The young ones are so amazing but the old ones are great - so its different, but its so much fun.
'Everyone on the screen is having so much fun that you forget what your day was, or whatever's happening around you. You just get swept up into it. It makes you want to dance!'
Cher made a typically head-turning arrival to the interview in kooky mom jeans, embroidered with skulls, and a paint-splattered bomber jacket.
