Retired US astronaut Scott Kelly has married his long-time girlfriend who stood by him when he spent a record-breaking year away in space. The 54-year-old tied the knot with Amiko Kauderer, 44, in their hometown of Houston, Texas last weekend. Kelly shared several photos on social media as he announced news of their nuptials. The couple, who have been together eight years, spent 12 months doing long distance when Kelly went to the International Space Station from March 2015 to March 2016.

When Katrina Shangreaux (right), 30, came home to find her two-year-old son Kylen (left) had wet the bed, she flew into a rage and beat him to death. On Tuesday, she was given 40 years jail for what the judge said was an 'unusually heinous' crime. Shangreaux pleaded guilty to second degree murder in March, and told the court before sentencing the killing was 'one day that went wrong'. But Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Collins restated the horrific injuries her toddler son sustained, telling the court Kylen was left with bleeding on his brain, cigarette burns on his head and horrifically mutilated genitals.

Reality TV fisherman Edgar Hansen (left and far right) has admitted to sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl but he will not face any prison time due to a plea deal. Hansen, who is a co-star on The Deadliest Catch cable show with his brother Sig (pictured on right), assaulted the girl at a home in Mountlake Terrace, Washington in September last year.  The 47-year-old pleaded guilty last week to fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation. In a handwritten statement to police, Hansen admitted to kissing the girl and touching her on her genitals.

The devastated mother of Lesandro 'Junior' Guzman-Feliz (inset), the Bronx teen killed last month in a horrific machete attack, yelled in Spanish at her son's accused killers as they pleaded not guilty to numerous charges including first-degree murder. Leandra Feliz (left) screamed 'Asesino!' - the Spanish word for murderer - during Wednesday's hearing in the packed Bronx courtroom. Police say the alleged killers are members of the Trinitarios subset 'Los Sures' and they believed Lesandro to be a member of rival gang 'Sunset'. Previously it was thought that Lesandro was killed in a case of mistaken identity and that he had been captured on camera having sex with a gang leader's female relative. Terrifying video of two men attacking a pedestrian on a street in the Bronx shows one suspect whacking the man to the ground with a baseball bat, then the other assailant strikes him while he's down. The violent attack happened in broad daylight on Monday around 4.50pm in front of 945 Southern Boulevard. The two men jump out of a Range Rover and run up behind the victim, a 32-year-old male. The man wearing a white t-shirt takes the first crack with what appears to be an aluminum bat, and the victim just crumbles to the floor.

Pennsylvania's highest court on Wednesday overturned the conviction of a man who was 11-years-old at the time he shot dead his father's pregnant fiancée in 2009.  The state Supreme Court's 5-0 ruling clears 20-year-old Jordan Brown of wrongdoing, his lawyers say, in the slaying of 26-year-old Kenzie Houk, who was eight months pregnant when she was found dead in the family's rural western Pennsylvania farmhouse. It reversed a finding by a juvenile court judge in Lawrence County, upheld by a state appellate court, that Brown was guilty of first-degree murder and homicide of an unborn child. The court said prosecutors had not provided enough evidence to support it.

Her legs accidentally brushed up against wild parsnip. Coming into contact with the plant releases a sap onto the skin, which when exposed to the sun, causes severe burns anywhere from to 24 to 48 hours later. One week later, yellow, pus-filled blisters formed on her legs (inset), sending her to a burn specialist. Murphy is expected to make a full recovery, although she will have some scars on her legs and will have to monitor her time in the sun.

A forgiving waiter in Odessa, Texas is turning the other cheek and staying strong despite a racist customer calling him a 'terrorist.' Khalil Cavil, 20, took to Facebook to describe what happened at the Saltgrass Steak House on Saturday, posting a picture of the customer's receipt who had scribbled at the top: 'We don't tip terrorist [sic].' Cavil, who is black and born in the US, was stiffed on a $108 tab.

A scenic stretch of Highway 1 in a popular tourist area along the California coast has reopened to traffic more than a year after it was blocked off by a massive landslide. The newly built, two-lane stretch of road in Big Sur opened on Wednesday - two days ahead of schedule, according to the California Department of Transportation. The stretch of scenic highway was buried in up to 40 feet of stone and dirt after the mammoth landslide in May last year. More than one million tons of rock and dirt tumbled down a saturated slope in the area called Mud Creek.

Researchers have dug up the remains of dozens of people believed to have been African-American prisoners forced into labor on plantations in Texas over a century ago. Archaeologists have exhumed 95 sets of remains in an unmarked cemetery in Fort Bend County, Texas, a sprawling suburb just outside of Houston. The crews began digging in April as part of a project to build a $59million career and technical center on the site in the town of Sugar Land.

A New York City-based Uber driver was kicked off the ride hailing platform after a passenger caught him peeing in a bottle during their ride. Passenger Raichelle Carter recorded her Uber driver relieving himself after being picked up in Midtown Manhattan. The driver then decided to take a quick bathroom break by peeing into a water bottle in the front seat.

The bear relaxed in the cool water for a few minutes, finding relief from the humidity and 90-degree heat. Eventually, it climbed out of the pool and continued exploring the San Fernando Valley neighborhood until park rangers tranquilized it. Amtrak has announced that it is bringing back the classic glass-dome train to run on routes from Brunswick in Maine to Boston and from Montreal to New York from later this year. The upper level of the glass carriage is currently the only one of its kind that remains in service. It has windows on every side including the ceiling, meaning the passengers can enjoy a panoramic view from their seat.
