She's a wild thing! Queen Mathilde of Belgium is chic in a palm print suit as she visits the Africa museum in Brussels

Queen Mathilde proved not all royal engagements are formal affairs as she came face to face with a lion on Wednesday.

The Queen of Belgium was visiting the Africa museum in Brussels, and despite all of the animals being stuffed, looked rather alarmed as she came face to face with the big cat.

The 45-year-old royal looked festive in a palm print gold suit as she met with Vice-Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Didier Reynders at the exhibit.

She paired her statement suit with muted accessories in the form of a sand coloured clutch and a pair of delicate gold leaf-shaped earrings.

Her blonde bob looked styled to perfection for her engagement today and she opted for a natural beauty look in soft shades.

The mother-of-four enjoyed a tour of the museum where she was also shown a display of stuffed zebras being exhibited.

She was treated to a performance by an African band during her visit, much to the monarch's delight. 

The AfricaMuseum is a centre for knowledge and resources on Africa, in particular Central Africa, in an historical, contemporary, and global context. 

The museum exhibits unique collections on the colonial past as well as the continent in the modern day.

It reopened this year following 66 million euros renovation with a more critical view on its dark history rather than its previous celebration of colonial times.

Mathilde was able to explore all of the exciting new renovations during her tour on Wednesday. 

Queen Mathilde has been married to King Phillipe of Belgium for 19 years, who ascended the throne following the abdication of his father, King Albert II, on 21 July 2013. 

The family celebrate the 5th anniversary of enthronement of King Philippe today.
