She's never been afraid to show a wide range of characters on screen.

And Bella Thorne takes the leading role as a teenager who can somewhat communicate with the dead in the new trailer for I Still See You. 

Set nearly one decade after an apocalyptic event which killed millions of people, the 20-year-old actress portrays Veronica 'Roni' Calder, who receives a strange message from one of the seemingly undead.

'Everyone remembers where they were that day ... the day of the event,' Bella whispers in the opening scenes of the trailer. 'We were only 50 miles from ground zero. 

'The event took people we cared about but it also left a part of them behind - remnants.'

Throughout the two-minute clip, living characters co-exist with ghosts who can disappear at any moments notice.

'They cant communicate with you ... they can't touch,' Dermot Mulroney's character August Bittner said in one classroom scene. 

But Thorne's character is special in that she's making a connection with one particular ghost who seems out for blood.

'I think he might want to hurt me,' Bella admits to a trusted classmate.

'When we die, we leave an echo of ourselves behind,' Louis Herthum's character Dr. Martin Steiner tells the teenager. 'These echoes, they can become doorways through which a person can reach back and touch the living.'  

Directed by Scott Speer and written by Jason Fuchs, the film is based on Daniel Waters' novel Break My Heart One Thousand Times.

Richard Harmon, Hugh Dillon, Amy Price-Francis and Shaun Benson also star in the film which is set to be released in Italy in September.
