'It's many so many things: security, food, a beautiful home,' the actor continued. 'You can buy a house, but that doesn't make it a home.

'My wife has made our house a home... She did the heavy lifting.'

Denzel also revealed one dish he can't live without that his wife always makes.

'I've been eating her curry chicken dish since I've known her,' he said. 'I used to make it too — but not as good as hers.'

The Academy Award-winning actor met Pauletta on set while he was filming a TV movie entitled Wilma. The couple married in 1983 and have four children together: John David, 33; Katia, 30; Olivia, 27; and Malcolm, 27.

Acting appears to run in the family as Denzel's oldest son, John David, stars in HBO's Ballers and is set to premiere in a new film entitled BlacKkKlansman.

But John David wasn't always pegged to take up acting for his career after he signed on with NFL's St. Louis Rams in 2006 as a running back for the team.

When People asked Denzel if he was sad his son gave up a career as a footballer to become an actor, the father gave a response that many parents probably relate to.

'He's had I don't know how many concussions, a broken collarbone, torn up knee and Achilles tendon, so no, I'm glad it's over,' Denzel said.

Denzel has reprised his role as retired CIA agent Robert McCall in his most recent film, The Equalizer 2.

Despite his decades-long career, this is the first time the actor has done a sequel for any of his movies.
