Linda enthused: 'How well did Katie do! I know she didn't finish but she was doing it for her mum.

Jane Moore then pointed out that it was 'very easy to sit at home and criticise', without appreciating how difficult running the event can be.

Linda chimed: 'You know your body, good on her for trying.'

Updating viewers on the state of Amy - who was diagnosed with incurable lung condition idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis last September - the Birds of a Feather star added: 'She's doing alright. She's keeping fit, doing her yoga and stuff.

'She's hoping to get a new lung, God willing.'

Andrea McLean then enthused: 'We send them both our love.'

Running in unseasonably hot April weather, Katie, 39, who was dressed in a giant lung costume, pulled out with a knee injury some three hours into the 26.2 mile run.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday evening, she dismissed claims that her injury was prompted by a lack of preparation in the weeks leading up to the race.

Sharing a short video of herself and Amy, she wrote: 'I did train for the run, tried my best in a heavy outfit and if my mummy is proud that’s what matters to me.'

However others defended Katie, with one writing: 'Your mum Amy will be so proud of you she knows you did your hardest for her sending you both all my love you try’d your hardest.'
