How to dress like a Duchess (and, best of all, you can get Meghan’s look on the high street)

  • Fiona McIntosh recreated Meghan Markle's style using High Street brands
  • She compares the Duchess of Sussex's style to Fifties movie stars
  • She suggest recreating Meghan's denim look with a chic version from Oasis
  • Warehouse offers a similar yellow dress to New York designer Brandon Maxwell

We are so accustomed to seeing the Royals trussed up in cascading frills, prim shapes or fussy florals that the Duchess of Sussex’s understated style has taken us all rather by surprise.

Ditching the frayed jeans, tiny shorts and mini-skirts of her single years, she has held on to her unfussy, preppy American style, cleverly adjusting her love of monochrome to fit royal rules — albeit with the occasional mistake.

This summer, she’s stepped out in the sort of quiet chic last seen on Fifties movie stars — even favouring Givenchy, once worn by Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Onassis, whose style seems to have inspired the duchess.

The good news is that, while few of us could ever splurge on a Carolina Herrera suit or a Givenchy shirt-dress, Meghan’s pared-down look is easily achievable on the High Street. The key is choosing simple shapes and adding a skinny belt, heels and a tiny clutch bag.

Finally, we have a royal fashion icon whose style we can — and want to — steal . . .
