He saw the mighty television viewing figures and the videos of beer flying through the air in fan parks, from his native north-east in Sunderland to the south-east in Croydon. In the half-hour we spend in his company, his new life emerges as one of posing for selfies with children, sending happy birthday video messages and reliving the mighty summer of 2018.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has confirmed his backroom staff ahead of the new Premier League season. Sarri stood with his team of 10 during a training session at the club's training base in Cobham. The 59-year-old took his position in the middle of the photo between assistant first team coach Gianfranco Zola, on his left, and second assistant coach Marco Ianni, on his right.

EXCLUSIVE BY MIKE DICKSON: Wimbledon has launched a massive new £65 million bid to acquire new land in what may prove the most significant move in the iconic tennis event's history. The All England Club has tabled what it has termed a final offer to take over neighbouring Wimbledon Park Golf Club and its 73 acres as part of huge expansion plans. All 750 members of the golf establishment - even those recently joined - would enjoy a windfall of minimally £80,000 (post tax deductions) under the enhanced scheme now being put forward.

The Liverpool squad took some time out from their pre-season training camp in France on Friday. The Reds are currently in Evian-les-Bains before their final two pre-season friendlies against Italian sides Napoli and Torino.  James Milner played some cricket while Alberto Moreno turned his hand to table tennis. 

Anthony Martial has returned for Manchester United 's pre-season preparations for the first time since he went AWOL on their tour of the US to see the birth of his baby boy. The Frenchman has not been seen for more than a week but rolled up to United's Carrington facilities in his Range Rover on Friday morning to report for training. Martial left United's LA base to be with his pregnant partner Melanie Da Cruz last week against Jose Mourinho 's wishes and friction between the pair has since intensified.

A spectator in the stands at Edgbaston made the most of his moment in the spotlight by catching a six hit by England's Sam Curran on Friday. Duncan Lewis of the Lord's Taverners - a youth cricket and disability sports charity -proved to be a safe pair of hands in the crowd.  Lewis caught one of two sixes hit by Curran during England's second innings.

It is a time-honoured tradition that new signings grasp a microphone and embarrass themselves in front of their new team-mates with a spot of karaoke. Liverpool's summer recruits became the latest to enter the spotlight on Thursday night as Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita were among the few in Jurgen Klopp's squad to be filmed performing in front of their colleagues. The Reds are currently in a training camp in Evian-les-Bains before their final two pre-season friendlies and made the most of a spare evening to do some team bonding in front of their luxurious hotel.

John Terry and his wife Toni have been pictured on the back of a three-wheeled motorbike as they continue to make the most of their family holiday in Portugal. The former Chelsea and England captain is currently spending some time in the sun with his wife and their two children, Georgie and Summer. It appeared the couple were having some time to themselves though as Toni posted a photo of the two of them on a bike with Terry in the driver's seat. He was wearing just swim shorts while his bikini-clad wife added the caption: 'Mr T taking me for a ride'.

Ahmed Musa has moved from Leicester City to Al-Nassr, the Saudi Arabian club said. Musa, 25, was the Foxes' record signing when he moved to the King Power for £16.6million in 2016, but failed to hold down a place and was loaned back to his old club CSKA Moscow for part of last season. Al-Nassr said he had signed a four-year contract but did not disclose the transfer fee. The announcement was also accompanied by a bizarre video, that did not even feature their new signing — only highlights of his playing career to date.

An exhausted Andy Murray broke down in tears after coming through his marathon last-16 clash with Romania's Marius Copil at the Citi Open, only finishing at an astonishing time of 3.01am. Afterwards, Murray slammed the playing schedule at the event. The match did not start until shortly before midnight in Washington and took three hours and two minutes, resulting in the latest ever finish for a match at the event.

It promises to be another big spending summer among the Premier League clubs, especially those wishing to haul in champions Manchester City over the course of the campaign. More than a few eyebrows were raised on August 7 when Robert Jarni, at the peak of his game, ended up at a team that finished 11th during the 1997-98 Premiership season. At just £2.6million he cost a relative snip too. Jarni even started to get settled in to his new surroundings as he watched Gordon Strachan's side in a pre-season friendly against Espanyol. But Jarni's name would only ever appear on Coventry shirts bought by excited supporters. Two weeks later, he was gone.
