The number of students accepted on to degree courses in Britain has fallen - with 411,860 taking up places so far, it was revealed today. This figure is down one percentage point on the same point last year, initial Ucas figures showed as nervous sixth-formers fretted about their future this morning. More than half a million students across Britain found out if they had got into their university of choice, 90 minutes ahead of A-level results being released. Sixth-formers across England, Wales and Northern Ireland were able to go online from 8am to see their acceptance, before the test results come out at 9.30am. It comes as a new higher education watchdog warned universities offering Clearing places must 'put the student first' and not award spots simply to fill up courses. Police are in the process of recovering the bodies of Shanann Watts, 34, and her daughters, Bella and Celeste, who goes by 'Cece,' two sources said. Chris Watts, Shanann's husband, (pictured together left) has reportedly been detained. The FBI and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation had been searching for the mother, who were declared 'endangered and missing' on Tuesday. The family is pictured right.

Horrifying footage has emerged of the moment a teenage boy tried to throw his girlfriend in front of a moving train. The shocking incident was caught on CCTV camera at Elizabeth South station in Adelaide's north in October last year. Lucas Gary Narkle, 19, dragged his girlfriend, aged 14 at the time, towards the oncoming train as she struggled desperately to avoid being hurled onto the tracks.

Rebecca who has suffered with recurring episodes of depression since the age of 16 began to obsessively think about sex during treatment for her mental health. Lynn claims her sex addiction also got in the way of everyday life causing her to become isolated from friends and unable to concentrate enough to work. In July the World Health Organisation formallyrecognised sex addiction as a mental health condition, a move that could lead to treatment being made available on the NHS.

A construction worker and his fiancée say they rescued a sweating baby from a hot car after the child's parents overdosed on heroin. Eric Asher, 43, saw a man and a women passed out of the ground of a parking lot in Canton, Ohio on Friday. He then noticed a baby girl sweating in a car seat as temperatures reached 88F.  

NEW Designer dogs were found whimpering, emaciated and covered in faeces by RSPCA inspectors at the home of Bexleyheath breeder Janet Oxlade. She was handed a suspended prison sentence. The 67-year-old who bred popular French Bulldogs, Shih Tzus and Daschunds was found guilty of breaches of the Animal Welfare Act. Animal welfare charity the RSPCA was notified of concerns from multiple sources and visited the property on January 25 where they found a 'makeshift farm'. They found 38 dogs and 18 cats in 'disgraceful' conditions. Oxlade's own home was pristine but her animals were kept in filth.

Jeremy Corby - who was then an MP - stood alongside Maher al-Taher, the exiled leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), at a ceremony in 2014 (main). A month later, Taher's group claimed responsibility for a terror attack in which four rabbis were slaughtered during their morning prayers, The Times reported. Dee-Ann Fitzpatrick, 49, claimed she was driven to the brink of suicide and became a virtual recluse after a decade of abuse at the hands of colleagues. But her family issued a statement last night claiming the employment tribunal has now ruled in favour of her employer. A picture showing Miss Fitzpatrick tied to a chair and gagged (shown left) allegedly by male colleagues exacting revenge for her whistleblowing could not be used in the tribunal. The photo, thought to have been taken by a male colleague in 2010, was inadmissable because it had happened too long ago and was 'time-barred'.

Alexina Graham, Josephine Skriver, Barbara Palvin, and Lais Ribeiro all had a professional bra fitting on camera. The fit experts pointed out how some of the problems with the bras they were already wearing. Some have bands that were too loose or spilled out over the top of their cups - and ended up going up a cup size. Freya Clarke (pictured right before being diagnosed), 26, from East Grinstead, Sussex, quit her sales and marketing job after becoming 'bored' with London life. She noticed the unusual bruises while relaxing on the beach (left before becoming ill). After blood tests confirmed she was suffering from acute myeloid leukaemia, Ms Clarke was forced to endure grueling chemotherapy in Australia, which caused her to lose her hair and left her in constant pain. Doctors worried she would not survive, leading her family (mother Christine, 59, and sister Sorrel, 29, pictured in inset) to fly out to be by her bedside.

Katia Rouarch hinted that Schumacher would arrive in the near future in an interview with Swiss magazine L'Illustre. Sarra-Maria Karlström-Rantala, 32, from Finland was happily married to Wille, 34, when she met Jani, 28, at a concert a year ago. Home cooks have shared photos of truly disgusting-looking food on Reddit and some of them are bizarrely quite proud of their creations, despite there being nothing to be proud of in these dishes. The Tu-22M3M is a 'deep moderisation' of the Tu-22M3 which Russia's air force has about 100 in service and used extensively in missions over Syria in support of the Assad regime. The new planes can be navigated up to eight times better than the previous generation and target their improved missiles up to 10 times more accurately. Crucially they will also be able to carry Kh-32 air-to-surface cruise missiles, which have a range of up to 370 miles flying up to 25 miles above the ground at 3,100mph. Although the terrier miraculously survived without a broken bone, plummeting 23 metres on to a patio (above, left) resulted in abdominal bleeding and a haematoma in his lungs.

Villagers tried to encourage the monkey with bananas and nuts to come down. They feared he would was at risk of being electrocuted on the transmission tower. Three volunteers climbed the tower to rescue it before it made the incredible jump back down.

Dean Porter (pictured above), 47, was left with whiplash while taking his best friend's dog for a walk. CCTV footage shows the six-stone american bulldog Fagin pull Mr Porter to the ground as he bolts up the street. The dog's owner Luisa Nichol-Alvarez, 33, from Newcastle, said she couldn't stop laughing once she found the footage. Dean admitted that he had not told anyone about the embarrassing fall and thought he'd got away with it but Luisa had already been told by the neighbouring Jack Russell's owner.

The man was kayaking in France when he came to the bank. He twisted and capsized the boat while attempting to make his way ashore. After his partner successfully mounted herself onto dry land with ease, he pulled his canoe into the wall.He then places one leg on the step and keeps one in the boat. Then, he firmly places both his hands on the bank and then twists his leg back into the canoe.
