The Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) research-and-manufacturing corporation (a subsidiary of the Rostec state corporation) has upgraded the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). The modernized IFV will be unveiled at the Army 2018 defense show in late August, an industrial source told TASS.

"The upgraded BMP-1 IFV will receive new combat module with a 2A72 30 mm automatic cannon, a Kalashnikov PKTM 7.62 mm medium machinegun, and smoke dischargers. The turret will be fitted with the TKN-4GA combined day-night sighting system. The 2A72 cannon will be able to use air-burst munitions," the source said.

He added that the prototype of the upgraded BMP-1 had already passed through its trials. "Compared with the BTR-82A armored personnel carrier, the upgraded BMP-1 IFV features better accuracy, owing to a more stable tracked chassis," the source said.

The first deliveries of the upgraded BMP-1 IFVs are scheduled for this year.
