How do we make long-term thinking automatic and common instead of difficult and rare?

Abundance in action: -RF2 costs $2,000 -Fellow asks for lower b/c tough life stuff -I say choose $0-$1,000 -They say $500. But then more tough rainy day stuff, so ask for $400 -I say let's actually do $300 End of 2021: they (maybe) pay $2,000. (Or not!)

Funny how this is self-referential of the underlying content. Coinbase focuses on mission not activism. Is that ok? Folks focus on rest of life instead of Twitter debate around Coinbase non-activism. Is that ok?

Thoughts and prayers to all the Trust & Safety folks out there trying to manage the deluge of mis- and dis-information: what to label, what to demote, what to remove. It's often thankless, heroic, essential work. We see you. 🙏💪❤️

"From 2000-2200, the customs of the Nacirema tribe shifted considerably. Before, they were leaders of a pan-capitalist ideological superstructure. But as the decades unfurled, their monolithic stature dissipated into the Networked Human Organism."

I love this: In 2011, "Wegener's disease" changed to "granulomatosis with polyangiitis". This was b/c of Wegener's Nazi background. But I'm in favor of removing eponyms in general. They don't accurately describe the discovery process. It's a collective not an individual.

A reminder to ask how people are doing instead of who they are.

And yep, I know: a) Empathy is (in theory) for all emotions. But I feel like it's most often used for negative emotions. b) Compersion is primarily used in polyamorous settings right now. We should apply it to other fields.

Empathy: feeling sad when someone else is sad. "That sounds tough." The opposite of shadenfreude. Compersion: feeling happy when someone else is happy. "I'm happy for you!" The opposite of jealousy. Our society lacks compersion. The word itself is barely even known!

17/ Fwiw, my favorite thoughtful response is from . (I love how she says it could work, but thinks that it feels top-down, an encourages startups to develop a bottom-up employee approach.)

16/ idk, whenever things like this happen I'm: a) Glad for the experimentation b) Glad for the thoughtful Twitter response c) Want better sensemaking of that response d) Want to trust the intent of others. (e.g. What would make you trust Brian's intent?)

15/ Another example: Brian says CB pushes for belonging and fair talent practices. How is this related to the mission? A diverse team is more likely to achieve the mission. (But this is arguable!) Caring about D&I within the co: good? Caring about D&I outside the co: bad?

14/ Making a decision about "whether this is connected to your company mission" is tough. Is "Trump getting re-elected" connected to "economic freedom"? In some ways, yes. So then allow Trump talk at the office. But in many ways no. A lack of focus.

13/ Fwiw, I think this is quite different than FB employee activism for FB's internal policies for elections, etc. That is directly connected to FB's mission and responsibilities (given their platform). Coinbase isn't a massive media platform, so has different responsibilities.

12/ Or vice versa: what would make you not ok with his post? Even if Coinbase increased economic freedom a bunch, but became a toxic workplace that ignored D&I and other problems "at home", would that be ok?
