'The fact that she just says I'm a mom, I'm taking care of this and I'm going to do what I need to do. That, I'm inspired by.'

Jennifer is a mom of three children - Violet, 12, Seraphina, nine, and Samuel, six - whom she shares with her estranged husband Ben Affleck, who is presently in rehab for alcohol issues.

Peppermint is a real departure for the actress best known for playing more sympathetic roles such as Eve in Dallas Buyers Club or Emily in Love, Simon.

'I've never gotten the chance to play that kind of visceral need to defend, or protect or take care of someone in your family,' Jennifer said.

Peppermint is in theaters on September 7.
