Venice Film Festival: Cate Blanchett, 49, exudes Old Hollywood glamour in silky one-shoulder gown and retro waves at Suspiria premiere

And Cate Blanchett looked every inch the screen star on Saturday night, as she attended the Suspiria premiere during the Venice Film Festival.

The 49-year-old Australian actress exuded retro glamour in a showstopping one-shoulder gown and Forties-style waves.

The Talented Mr Ripley star certainly took centre-stage in her garment, which featured a satin bodice with an accentuated shoulder and a vampy velvet skirt. 

Styling her hair into sleek pin curls, Cate highlighted her striking features with glossy nude lipstick and metallic eyeshadow.

Cate is set to star in the children's fantasy film The House With A Clock In Its Walls, but she recently admitted that she's not certain about how much longer she will keep acting.

She said: 'I don't know what I am going to do next as an actor, I never do really. But I feel like I've probably got a couple more years left in it, before I lose my sanity.'

In a speech to the Security Council in New York on Tuesday, the actress said nothing prepared her for 'the extent and depth of suffering' she saw when she visited camps in Bangladesh for the refugees who fled a violent crackdown by Myanmar's military.

Cate said she heard 'gut-wrenching accounts' of torture, rape, people seeing loved ones killed before their eyes, and children thrown into fire and burned alive.

'I am a mother, and I saw my children in the eyes of every single refugee child I met,' she said. I saw myself in every parent. How can any mother endure seeing her child thrown into a fire?'

'Their experiences will never leave me,' the two-time Academy Award winner told the packed building at the UN headquarters in New York.

Cate visited the refugee camps in Bangladesh in her role as a goodwill ambassador for the UN refugee agency in March this year.
