Russian wrestler Alexander Chekhirkin tests positive for banned drug, stripped of World Championships sliver
Moscow: Russian Greco-Roman wrestler Alexander Chekhirkin has served a ban for testing positive for a banned drug at last year's world championship, his lawyer told AFP on Wednesday.
Chekhirkin was stripped of the silver medal he won at the championship in Paris, his lawyer Artyom Patsev confirmed in an email to AFP.
"Alexander voluntarily accepted his temporary suspension dated on 29 September, last year," Patsev wrote.
"He had tested positive for glucocorticoid, which he was injected a few days before the start of the competition."
Patsev said the wrestler voluntarily accepted his suspension but appealed. The lawyer said that the international wrestling federation's anti-doping panel decided on Tuesday to reduce the ban to four months, which means it ended on 28 January.
