The Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) has take the delivery of its first Ultra-Light Combat Vehicles (ULCV) also named Dagor. This vehicle is designed and manufactured by the American Company Polaris Government & Defense and was unveiled at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) annual meeting and exposition held in Washington DC in October 2014.

A new RAF radar facility reinforcing the UK’s ability to track unidentified military or civilian aircraft will be powered up ready to operate soon, the head of the RAF heard on January 26, 2018. Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier, visited the site of the new £10m Remote Radar Head facility, at Saxa Vord, Unst, Shetland, to inspect its progress.

Safran Electronics & Defense has won the contract for a major French defense procurement agency DGA (Direction Générale de l’Armement) Science & Technology project, Furious. Covering a period of five years, this project is designed to lay the groundwork for the integration of land robots in French armed forces, as part of the Scorpion modernization program. Safran will call on support from academia as well as the agility of small and medium-size enterprises (SME), to fulfill this contract, reflecting the DGA’s policy of encouraging innovative partnerships between prime contractors, research organizations, SMEs and startups.

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) has awarded Lockheed Martin a $459 million contract modification for production and delivery of interceptors for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) weapon system. The modification brings the total contract value to $1.28 billion with funding provided in 2017 and 2018. The new interceptors support U.S. Army THAAD units and growing operational requirements.

"The trials are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2018 and last about a year," the analysts of the think-tank say, citing Russian media outlets. The program of the trials will include tests of the vehicle`s driving and firing performance, as well as its swimming capabilities and the firing performance of the Sprut-SDM1 in water. A contract to deliver Russian-made S-400 (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) air defense missile systems to Turkey has been signed. Turkey has become the second NATO member-state to purchase Russian-made S-400 systems. "Two S-400 air defense missile systems have been deployed in Syria, providing twenty-four-hour air defense for the Humaymim and Tartus bases," Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said during his trip to Southeast Asian countries.

The Soratnik automated fighting system has been tested in an environment close to real combat at temperatures of more than 30°C, the press office of Russia’s Kalashnikov Corporation told TASS. Vietnam has launched manufacturing of the Russian-originated OSV-96 anti-materiel rifle. The OSV-96 gas-operated self-loading anti-materiel rifle is being promoted on the global market by the Rosoboronexport company, a subsidiary of the Rostec state corporation. According to the official catalogue of Rosoboronexport, the OSV-96 is designed to engage manpower wearing body armor, light armored vehicles, radar, missile and artillery systems and other items of hardware.

Bittium has received the first orders from Mexican government authorities for mobile devices developed for a satellite communication system. The mobile devices have been developed in a product development project that started in the year 2015. The product development phase has been successfully concluded and the devices are now in volume production. The total value of the first orders is approximately 2 million euros and the devices will be delivered to the customers by the end of the first quarter of 2018. The mobile devices are manufactured in Finland.

On behalf of France, Italy and the United Kingdom governments, OCCAR (The Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) has notified a New In Service Support (N-ISS) contract with the Franco-Italian consortium, Eurosam, which is co-owned by MBDA and Thales. It replaces the first ISS contract that has been in place since July 2012. This contract has been a premiere in a major multinational armament program: OCCAR and Eurosam have collaborated to create a support community that is operationally compliant with the requirements of the three nations and five end users (armies, navies, air force).

On Tuesday January 16th, Cubic Corporation announced that its Cubic Mission Solutions (CMS) business division's GATR satellite antenna systems will proceed to Full Rate Production (FRP) for the U.S. Army's Transportable Tactical Command Communications (T2C2) program. T2C2 was granted approval for FRP as a result of the T2C2 Full Rate Production Milestone review. The FRP decision will enable the Army's program office to procure and field Cubic's GATR satellite antenna systems to Army units.
