The PT-16 also called PT-2016 is a Polish modernization of the Polish-made PT-91 Twardy Main Battle Tank used by the Polish army which is a further development by the Zaklady Mechaniczne Bumar-Labedy SA of the Russian-made T-72M1, produced under license in Poland. The PT-16 MBT was unveiled during MSPO defense exhibition in September 2016. The project was developed by the Polish companies Bumar Labedy and OBRUM which are now part of the Polish Armament Group, PGZ. According to the representative, it would take PGZ up to six months to assemble a functioning prototype. Currently Polish armed forces operates 237 PT-91 Twardy and 518 T-72 MBTs which are in service since more than 25 years. The PT-16 is a low-cost response to upgrade the fleet of old main battle tanks in service with the Polish Army offering more protection, mobility and fire power.
