Exposure to fracking chemicals and wastewater promotes fat cell development in laboratory cell models, a new Duke-led study finds. Scientists observed increases in the size and number of fat cells after exposing living mouse cells to a mixture of 23 common fracking chemicals, or to fracking wastewater or surface-water samples contaminated with it, even at highly diluted concentrations.
