The Kalashnikov Concern provided to the Russian Defense Ministry a batch of new light RPK-16 machineguns for test operation by the troops, the company said. "The Defense Ministry received in the first quarter of 2018 a batch of new 5.45 mm light RPK machineguns for test operations. Serial production of RPK-16 is expected parallel to AK-12 and AK-15 or right after them," it said.

Under the 2018 state defense order the troops continue being equipped with the newest military hardware. Officers of the defense representation panel 3378 have accepted a batch of sixty BTR-82 armored personnel carriers (APC) supplied by the Arzamas Machine Building Plant, the Defense Ministry said.

Rheinmetall subsidiary Rheinmetall Denel Munition announced that the company had secured another order for artillery shells and components for an international client to the value of €52 million. This comes shortly after a €28 million artillery order was booked earlier this year, which included fuzes, charges and various projectiles.

BMPT-72 (or Terminator-2) tank support fighting vehicles recently delivered to the Russian armed forces will be able to fire 30mm shells with controlled airburst, the press office of Russia’s Tecmash Group told TASS. The development of a system with munitions of this type is at the final stage, the press office added. The Tecmash Group is a subsidiary of Russia’s Rostec state hi-tech corporation.

Israeli company Thermal Beacon Ltd. developed high-end, innovative thermal IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) emitters – the MS OMR II c and MK-IV. The first system is mounted on a fighter’s helmet, marking it, and thus distinguishing it from enemy forces. The second system is installed on buildings, vehicles and sailing vessels, enabling accurate identification by friendly forces. In a recent experiment, the MS OMR II c system identified targets from a distance of 18 km.

A Central Military District air defense large unit based in the Novosibirsk Region in western Siberia has received an advanced Nebo-UM radar under the state defense procurement program, the district’s press office said. "The servicemen are currently undergoing training to learn to operate the advanced military hardware. The crew of the Nebo-UM radar will start to accomplish combat training missions soon," the press office said.

The element of surprise can be a critical weapon, and nothing removes it from the playbook of enemy forces quite like radar. Radar units send out pulses of high-frequency electromagnetic waves that reflect off objects, and modern radar systems are sophisticated enough to track even small, rapidly moving objects like rockets and mortar and artillery shells.

In 2018, the first batch of modernized BMP-2M infantry fighting vehicles arrived for service with the Russian army. The Czech army plans to spend over 100 billion crowns (about 4.5 billion USD) on equipment purchase by 2027, said Czech Chief-of-Staff Ales Opata on 18 June. According to Opata, the purchase will help the military to respond to current and future threats. More than 100 purchase and upgrading projects will be completed within the next 10 years. The new equipment includes CASA transport aircraft, multipurpose helicopters, mobile and airbase radars, armoured vehicles, an anti-aircraft system and combat drones.

According to Janes Defence website, the German Company Company FFG could delivered the first prototypes of the Wiesel 1 fitted with CAMAC passive armour to the German army at the end of 2018. In November 2017, Morgan Advanced Materials has been contracted by FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft to supply armour systems for the German Army’s WIESEL 1 Armoured Weapons Carrier (AWC) vehicle.

Marines will have better situational awareness on missions in dark areas thanks to new night vision goggles. The Binocular Night Vision Goggle II, or BNVG II, is a helmet-mounted binocular that gives operators improved depth perception at night, and uses white phosphor Image Intensification technology to amplify ambient light, with a modular thermal imaging overlay capability. BNVG II helps Marines identify potential buried explosive devices, find hidden objects within foliated areas and safely conduct tasks that require depth perception.

British paratroopers have jumped into Latvia alongside their US counterparts to show their ability to strike hard and fast in response to crises anywhere in the world. The soldiers from C Company, 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment (C Coy, 3 PARA), part of Colchester-based 16 Air Assault Brigade, parachuted into the Adazi training area alongside American troops from 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division – known as “1 Fury”.

A Borisoglebsk-2 electronic warfare (EW) system has been delivered to Russia’s military base in Tajikistan, the Russian Central Military District’s press office said. "EW units of Russia’s 201st military base in Tajikistan have received advanced R-934BMV jamming stations of the Borisoglebsk-2 system," the press office said.

Saber Strike 2018, a major US-led multinational exercise, wrapped up in Poland on Friday (15 June 2018), with a live-fire demonstration involving Polish F-16s and Mi-24 attack helicopters. The exercise, which began on 3 June, mobilised around 18,000 troops from 19 NATO Allies and partners. It provided an opportunity for forces to enhance their readiness and train across the Baltic states and Poland.
