The handover ceremony was held in Brest in the presence of His Excellency Prince Moulay Rachid El Alaoui, brother of the King of Morocco, Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Minister of Defence and Patrick Boissier, Chairman & CEO of DCNS. The Mohammed VI, named in honour of the Moroccan sovereign, is the first vessel from the Group’s FREMM range of multimission frigates to be acquired by an international customer.

The Defence Material Organisation of the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) has contracted Damen Shipyards Group for the delivery of five Harbour and Seagoing tugs. The contract has been made in cooperation with its Swedish counterpart: Swedish Försvarets Materielverk (FMV). Responding to current and future developments in emission reduction and environmentally friendly shipping, the RNLN has opted for a new Damen design: the ASD Tug 2810 Hybrid. The FMV has opted for another fit-for-purpose design: the ice-classed ASD Tug 3010 ICE.

On January 27, 2014 the first of two P-18N offshore patrol vessels (OPV) ordered by the Nigerian Navy was launched at the China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company (CSOC) at Wuchang Shipyard in Wuhan, China. CSOC is part of the part of the State Shipbuilding Corporation, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC).

The Navy's newest littoral combat ship, the future USS Coronado (LCS 4), departed from the Austal USA shipyard in Mobile, Ala., Jan. 27, en route to her commissioning site in Coronado, Calif. Coronado is the fourth littoral combat ship delivered to the Navy, and the second LCS of the aluminum, trimaran Independence variant. It is scheduled to be commissioned April 5, and will be homeported in San Diego, Calif.

The first two MH-60R Seahawk Romeo maritime combat helicopters were accepted by the Royal Australian Navy at an ‘In Service Date’ ceremony conducted by NUSQN 725 at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida on the 24th January. The first two of twenty-four airframes on order from Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin, were delivered to the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) in early December 2013.

The Broad Area Maritime Surveillance Demonstration (BAMS-D) aircraft are currently flying 15 missions a month and allow fleet commanders to identify and track potential targets of interest using a specialized suite of surveillance sensors.

On the morning of January 15, 2014 in the Vietnamese naval base in Cam Ranh Bay , took place the commissioning ceremony of the Vietnamese Navy large diesel - electric submarine (SSK) HQ-182 "Hà Nôi" (Project 636 Kilo/Varshavyanka class). It is the first unit of six SSK built in Russia by JSC "Admiralty Shipyards" under a 2009 contract. In a ceremony attended by Navy Commander of the Vietnam People's Navy (VNA), Vietnam Deputy Defence Minister Admiral Nguyen Van Hien and Deputy Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral VNA Pham Ngoc Minh.
After one week on trial, a private mini-submarine made by a Vietnamese mechanic can now work perfectly with its full functions. Nguyen Quoc Hoa, the one who performed the mini-submarine production, said on Local Lao Dong (Labor) online newspaper Thursday that machinery parts inside the mini-submarine operates well as originally designed.

A PLAN flotilla centered around a Type 071 LPD (Yuzhao-class Landing Platform Dock) has completed a two-day amphibious drill off the Paracel Islands (also called Xisha Islands in Chinese and Hoàng Sa Islands in Vietnamese) on Wednesday. The flotilla undertook a "three-dimensional" patrol of several islets, using surface vessels, Type 726 LCAC (Yuyi class) and Z-8 helicopters.

USS Makin Island (LHD 8) completed a nine-day scheduled sea trials on Jan. 17, after coming out of a 13-month Phased Maintenance Availability (PMA). During the nine-day underway period, Makin Island crew members tested a number of shipboard systems, including communication circuits, damage control systems, navigation systems and propulsion plant. The crew also conducted full-power runs of the ship, ballasting demonstrations and flight operations.

The China Ship-building Industry Corporation has confirmed it has accepted a contract to develop and build the world's first 10,000-ton class marine surveillance ship. The contract is valued at 280 million Yuan, or over 46 million US dollars, and includes the construction of another 4,000-ton surveillance ship. Tests for the ship's marine clutch have so far been successful.

According to the Polish MOD, invitations to start technical dialogue were sent to several submarine builders in late 2013. The Polish MOD just announced that four companies answered the invitations: France's DCNS, German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems GmbH, Kockums from Sweden (in partnership with government agency FMV Forsvarets Materielverk.) and Navantia of Spain.

Truman (CVN 75) and the French aircraft carrier FS Charles de Gaulle (R 91) began conducting combined flight operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility, Jan. 14. The flight operations are part of an ongoing period of overall combined operations between the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HST CSG) and French Task Force 473.
