Personal Assistance Services Procedures for Qualified Employees:
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is committed to providing persons with disabilities the resources and tools required to perform the essential duties of their job. As part of CIA’s Reasonable Accommodations Program, we provide Personal Assistance Services (PAS) for qualified employees who, because of certain targeted disabilities, require assistance to perform basic activities of daily living, including, but not limited to, eating, changing clothes, and using the restroom. Medical conditions that could qualify an individual to receive PAS include missing limbs or paralysis due to spinal cord injury.
Eligibility:An individual is eligible for PAS services if:
- The individual is an employee of the CIA;
- The employee has a targeted disability;
- The employee requires the services because of his/her targeted disability;
- The employee will be able to perform the essential functions of the job, without posing a direct threat to safety, once PAS and any required reasonable accommodations have been provided; and
- Providing PAS will not impose undue hardship on the CIA.
Process for Requesting PAS: Individuals who receive an Entry on Duty date may advise their hiring point of contact or the Ability Talent Broker, verbally or in writing, of their request for PAS, as well as any additional reasonable accommodation requirements. The process for requesting personal assistance services, the process for determining whether such services are required, and the CIA’s right to deny such requests when provision of the services would pose an undue hardship, are the same as for reasonable accommodations.
