‘Black Sails’ Actor Toby Stephens Joins Michael Bay’s ’13 Hours’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Black Sails” actor Toby Stephens has landed a key role in Michael Bay’s Benghazi thriller “13 Hours.”

John Krasinski, James Badge Dale, Max Martini and Pablo Schreiber are already set to star.

Paramount will distribute the pic, which will recount the attack on the U.S. Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya, on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Stephens plays Glen “Bub” Doherty, a GRS officer in Tripoli who’s good friends with Krasinski’s character.

Martini will play a member of the six-man security team that fought to defend the many Americans stationed at the compound. Paramount had no comment on the casting.

Chuck Hogan penned the script based on Mitchell Zuckoff’s book “Thirteen Hours: A Firsthand Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi,” to which Paramount acquired rights in February, before it was published. Erwin Stoff produces through 3 Arts Entertainment’s production shingle.

Thanks to his role on Starz’s “Black Sails,” which was renewed for a third season, Stephens has caught the eye of studios execs and is lining up his slate while production is on hiatus. Prior to “Black Sails,” Stephens’ highest-profile credit was as the villain in James Bond film “Die Another Day.”

Stephens is repped by Paradigm, United Agents and Management 360.
