The latest images provide a clearer view of the two components previewed by Musk at the end of last month, showing engineers in cherry-pickers at work on the nose cone and another large piece of the system.
Run, rabbit, run! China releases 308lb rover named Jade Rabbit 2 to trundle across the far side of the moon at a maximum speed of 220 yards per hour carrying out mineral, biological and radiation tests as it prepares to build a ‘lunar base’
The rover, dubbed Yutu-2, (pictured, left) drove off its lander's ramp and onto the exterior of the moon's far side roughly 12 hours after the Chinese spacecraft carrying it came to rest. The three five-metre-long antennas for the low-frequency radio spectrometre on Chang’e-4 were in position as the rover (graphic, bottom right) ventured further into the unknown on the far side of the moon. The lunar explorer Chang'e 4 touched down yesterday at 10.26am (2.26am GMT) local time and took an incredible never-before-seen 'close range' photo from the surface (shown top right) in a global first. The pioneering mission demonstrates China's growing ambitions to rival the US as a space power. Engineers and scientists at China's often secretive space agency celebrated as the multi-billion pound military-run programme was successful in its landing. China has hopes of a crewed space station by 2022, and of eventually sending humans to the moon.
Robot strippers, booth babes and NO female speakers: CES, technology's biggest gadget show, struggles to fight back against its sexist past
The world's largest tech conference has apparently learned a big lesson about gender equity. CES, the huge annual consumer-electronics show in Las Vegas, caught major flak from activists in late 2017 when it unveiled an all-male lineup of keynote speakers for the second year in a row. Although it later added two female keynoters , the gathering's 'boys' club' reputation remained intact.

Has the mystery of Napoleon's lost gold been solved? Historian says treasure hunters have spent 200 years looking in the wrong place - and his loot is hidden in his home town
A Russian historian claims the French Emperor ordered decoys to be sent to a fictional burial site 40 miles from the actual location during his retreat from Moscow in 1812 (top right). Viacheslav Ryzhkov says the famed 'Napoleon Lake', Semlevo, in the Smolensk region was a fraud, while the real loot was carted off to Lake Bolshaya Rutavech (left) near his hometown of Rudnya. It was Napoleon himself who ordered decoy convoys to be sent towards Lake Semlevo to distract Alexander I's forces. The historian claims Napoleon had some of the treasure melted into ingots before it was packed off on 400 wagons accompanied by 500 cavalry and 250 members of Napoleon's elite Old Guard.
China has brought plants and animals to the moon to cultivate for its future 'Lunar Palace' where people will live
China's Chang'e 4 spacecraft has brought plants and animals to the moon after successfully landing on the far side of the natural satellite of Earth yesterday. As well as radiation monitoring and mineralogical experiments, Chang'e-4 probe (left) contains potato seeds, silkworm eggs and arabidopsis seeds - plants related to cabbage and mustard that are commonly used by biologists as a model for how plants behave in different environments. The seeds and eggs are being kept in a small cylindrical tin (right) and are expected to grow inside the 0.8L container in 100 days.
China's railgun revealed: Hypersonic superweapon capable of striking targets 125 miles away is spotted on warship
What appears to be the world's first naval rail gun has been pictured on a Chinese naval warship at sea. A photo (top right) taken and posted by a defence blogger has emerged on Chinese social media, claiming to show the Type 072II Yuting-class tank landing ship Haiyang Shan (bottom right) at sea with what looks like an electromagnetic railgun mounted on its bow. It's not the first time the hypersonic superweapon has been spotted on the Haiyang Shan after photos (left) first emerged in early 2018.

Ultima Thule in 3D: NASA releases new stereo image of distant Kuiper Belt object as the New Horizons team reveals they have not yet found any moons or an atmosphere
In a final press briefing held Thursday afternoon, NASA released the latest image of the rust-colored object in the Kuiper Belt, showing our first look at Ultima Thule in stereo. When video with 3D glasses, the image captured by the Long-Range Reconnaissance Imager shows the best view yet of its three-dimensional shape. The team also revealed new insight on the search for anything in Ultima’s vicinity; so far, they haven’t found any signs of rings or moons, nor evidence of an atmosphere.
Stunning 'mammary clouds' blanket the skies of Sydney leaving locals stunned by rare weather phenomenon
A blanket of unusual clouds formed over Sydney on Tuesday in the latest of a string of bizarre weather events in the last few weeks. Awestruck observers along the New South Wales coast shared photos of the ominous sight, revealing oddly clumped dark clouds rippling across the sky. Though uncommon, experts say the phenomenon is no cause for worry; the distinctive 'lumpy' clouds are known as mammatus clouds, and form in association with storm-causing cumulonimbus clouds.
Chinese spacecraft becomes first EVER to touch down on dark side of the moon as it transmits never-before-seen 'close range' images after making historic landing
A Chinese spacecraft has made the first-ever landing on the far side of the moon (bottom, middle), state media have announced. The lunar explorer Chang'e 4 touched down (footage captured bottom left) at 10.26am (2.26am GMT) local time and took an incredible never-before-seen 'close range' photo from the surface (shown main) in a global first. The pioneering mission demonstrates China's growing ambitions to rival the US as a space power. Engineers and scientists at China's often secretive space agency (bottom, right) celebrated as the multi-billion pound military-run programme was successful in its landing. China has hopes of a crewed space station by 2022, and of eventually sending humans to the moon. The far side of the moon faces away from Earth and is relatively unexplored. Unlike the near side that always faces the earth, it is mountainous and rugged.
Mexican archaeologists find the temple of the Flayed Lord, where priests wore the skins of the dead after sacrificing them in gruesome rituals
Mexican archaeologists have found the first temple of the Flayed Lord(main image), a pre-Hispanic fertility god depicted as a skinned human corpse (right). Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History said the historic find was made during recent excavations of Popoloca Indian ruins in Puebla state. Experts found two skull-like stone carvings, (inset) believed to be used to 'plug' holes where skins were placed following the rituals, and a stone statue depicting the god, Xipe Totec.

Meet Ultima AND Thule: First high resolution images of most distant object ever visited reveal it is red and contains TWO objects 'resting on each other' like a snowman
Humanity has finally captured its first clear look at an object in the faraway Kuiper Belt. NASA revealed the first images and science data from this week's historic flyby in a news conference Wednesday afternoon. Far from the blurry 'bowling pin' we saw with New Horizons' first look when it beamed its signal home early morning on January 1, the new images reveal Ultima Thule is snowman-shaped red world with two distinct lobes - one stacked atop the other.

Scientists finally drill into mysterious Antarctic lake 'twice the size of Manhattan' buried under 3,500 feet of ice in bid to find if life exists there
Experts say any life there could raise hopes of finding similar organisms deep inside Mars or on the ice-covered moons of Jupiter and Saturn. The pool of water, known as Subglacial Lake Mercer location shown inset), measures nearly 62 square miles, was discovered more than a decade ago through satellite images but has never been explored.
Brace yourself for a brutal winter: Experts say disruptions in the polar vortex could cause temperatures to plummet in parts of the US
Activity in an Arctic climate pattern could send the polar vortex barreling towards more southern latitudes to envelop parts of North America, Europe, and Asia. The phenomenon has led to extreme winter weather in recent years, including record low temperatures in the US back in 2014 and last year’s ‘Beast from the East’ in the UK. While there’s still time for things to change, the models currently suggest a split in the high-altitude polar vortex will ring in the New Year, creating the potential for ‘more severe winter weather’ in the Eastern US in the weeks to follow.
