'Harry is beguiled by Meghan': Lady Colin Campbell claims duchess has 'changed' the prince - and things haven't been the same with William since he questioned their romance

  • Lady Colin Campbell revealed that Harry is 'besotted' by his new bride Meghan
  • Said that she had 'considerably changed him' and he was 'completely beguiled'
  • Author Katie Nicholl said Harry felt criticised by William over their romance

The Duchess of Sussex has 'considerably changed' Prince Harry and he is totally 'besotted' by her, royal insider Lady Colin Campbell has claimed in a documentary exploring rumours of a rift between Meghan and the Duchess of Cambridge

Speaking in the Channel 5 documentary Kate V Meghan: Princesses At War which aired on Sunday night, Lady Campbell revealed that Harry is 'beguiled' by his new wife.

Lady Colin, 69, who was a confidante of Princess Diana and still has close royal connections, has published three books about the royal family.

The documentary also claimed that while Harry is happier than ever since settling down with Meghan, things between him and Prince William are more strained.

While rumours of a feud between Meghan and Kate have swirled, the show claimed that the rift was actually between Harry and William - after the younger brother felt  'criticised' for his choice of bride.

Speaking on the show, Lady Campbell said: 'Everything I hear is that Harry is completely beguiled by Meghan and completely enthralled to her and has changed considerably.'

And arguing that the prince, who according to new reports has given up alcohol for Meghan, has changed for the better, she added: 'People do change when they get married.'

But while his relationship with the pregnant duchess was praised, things between him and Prince William are reportedly more strained.

Royal author Katie Nicholl claimed that the prince was less thrilled with his older brother William, after he reportedly questioned Harry on whether his romance was moving too fast.

According to the commentator, the relationship between the brothers has not been the same since the incident, which was said to have happened after the pair announced their engagement at the end of 2017.

'They will joke about who hasn't done the washing up or William will have a go at Harry for eating him out of house and home but actually a rift over his choice of bride is far more serious,' she explained.

'William was quite concerned that the relationship had moved so quickly and being close to Harry, probably the only person close enough to say to Harry 'this seems to be moving quickly, are you sure?'

'And I think what was meant as well intended brotherly advice just riled Harry.

'Harry is hugely protective of Meghan, he saw that as criticism, he interpreted that as his brother not really being behind this marriage and I don't think things have been quite right ever since.'

Meanwhile Diana's former butler Paul Burrell warnedt hat Meghan must 'conform and do as she's told' or risk clashing with the royal family as he likened her experience to that of Princess Diana

Look chic in a navy coat like the Duchess of Sussex

While the Duchess of Cambridge commanded attention in a red Catherine Walker coat, Meghan went for understated chic with a navy dress, coat and feathered fascinator at Sandringham this morning. Two different styles for two different women, but both looks wowed.

Meghan's Victoria Beckham navy wool coat echoes the label’s streamlined aesthetic and flatters her baby bump perfectly while the leather black boots add a high fashion kick to the look.

Both of these items are key pieces to have in your wardrobe, sadly this exact coat isn't available to buy any longer but you can shop the British designer over on the right at Farfetch. If you hurry you can pick up her boots below however, before shopping our pick of must-have navy coats. This Sandro one is tres chic indeed and on sale!

Addressing rumours of a rift between the two couples, royal broadcaster Carole Malone claimed that Kate could be feeling 'threatened' by the Hollywood star joining the family.

She said: 'Kate would very definitely be threatened by Meghan's presence and her appearance on the royal scene.'

Describing the duo as very different characters from opposite backgrounds, she explained that Kate had been the 'young gorgeous girl that everyone had been photographing since she first started dating Prince William', adding that she 'might be a little put out when this gorgeous, American Hollywood star arrived on the scene'.

Meghan has long been vocal of her stance on feminism, politics and human rights, as well as reportedly being unhappy about the royal's penchant for hunting, as she is an avid animal lover.

Last year it was revealed Harry and Meghan would be moving out of their Kensington Palace cottage to the grounds of Windsor, to avoid their first child- due in spring 2019, growing up 'in a goldfish bowl'.

However behind the scenes reports claimed the move could be due to a rift between the Cambridges and the Sussexes.

There were claims that Kate broke down in tears following Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid's dress fitting, ahead of Meghan and Harry's wedding in May, as well as suggestions the pair had clashed over staff.

Then just weeks ago sources claimed Meghan, 37, was 'fed-up' of not being able to 'stand up for herself' as the demands of royal protocol dictate she keeps a dignified silence amid rumours of tension between the sisters-in-law.

An insider told Us Weekly the pregnant duchess is finding it 'frustrating and stressful' having 'no voice' - and finds the constraints of royal life 'debilitating'.

Once an outspoken feminist who gave speeches at United Nations forums, Meghan has since shut down her social media accounts as part of her transition from actress to duchess.

However, royal insiders have insisted that there has been no falling out between the Cambridges and the Sussexes, but admitted the pair are 'very different people'.

A source previously told the Daily Mail's Rebecca English: 'While there are some tensions behind the scenes, Kate is pretty unflappable and nothing has become bad enough to make Harry and Meghan want to move out.

'People are genuinely pleased to see them so happy. The truth is that there simply isn't enough room at Kensington Palace for them and I know they have been looking at Windsor as a possibility since before the wedding.'

Paul Burrell warns Meghan must 'conform and do as she's told' or risk clashing with the royal family as he likens her experience to that of Princess Diana

Speaking on the same Channel 5 documentary Kate V Meghan: Princesses at War, which aired last night, Burrell claimed Buckingham Palace is like a 'minefield' for anyone new and compared the treatment Meghan has received to that experienced by Princess Diana.

He said: 'Meghan has married into the most traditional family in the country, the royal family. How is she going to cope? Princess Diana was brought up in a house that was as big as Buckingham Palace, and even she was lost.'

Diana's former butler has compared Meghan's treatment in the royal family to that of Princess Diana, claiming that she 'was not treated very kindly'.

Paul Burrell, 60, explained Meghan, 37, is a 'strong and independent woman' who has found herself joining the 'most traditional family in the country'.

Speaking on the same Channel 5 documentary Kate V Meghan: Princesses at War, which aired last night, Burrell, seen last October, claimed Buckingham Palace is like a 'minefiled' for anyone new and compared the treatment Meghan has received to that experienced by Princess Diana

Burrell, 60, served as a footman for the Queen and later butler to Diana for 10 years until her death in 1997. In the years since he has spoken often of his connections to the royal family and published a number of memoirs.

Describing Meghan as a 'strong and independent woman', the Derbyshire-born former butler acknowledged that she may clash with the royal family if she doesn't 'conform and do as she's told'.

He continued: 'Buckingham Palace is a minefield for any person going in there for a first time. People set traps, they weren't very kind to this young girl coming into this world.' 'Who would want to be part of that family?', he added.

Burrell urged Meghan to 'stay close to Harry' and get to know the queen, describing her as the one that 'mattered the most'.

As well as the reported feud between the couples, Meghan has had to endure regular public outbursts from her half sister Samantha Markle, and her father Thomas.

Last month, Thomas directly appealed on television to the Queen to intervene and end his estrangement from his daughter whom he has not seen since he missed her wedding in May to Harry.

And while Meghan has maintained a dignified silence amid his regular demands, experts have claimed she may have an easier life if she does the same when it comes to royal matters.

Last month Tom Bower, unauthorised biographer of Prince Charles, spoke out about her passionate nature, appearing on Good Morning Britain.

Comparing her to Harry's late mother, he claimed: 'The problem is in my view that she is trying to be Diana.

'She's trying to adopt the new role, and the tragedy of the story is it'll end in the same way unless someone steps in from the Palace and says 'look this is the way it's done here'.'

Who's who in the Spencer clan?

Emily McCorquodale

Emily McCorquodale, 34, is the eldest of the McCorquodale brood. In 2003, aged 19, she was diagnosed with cancer while studying at Leeds Metropolitan University but was later given the all-clear.

In 2012 she married husband James Hutt, whom she met on a blind date, in a ceremony in Lincolnshire, which was attended by Prince Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The couple have two children, Isabella, three, and Henry, two.

Lady Jane and Lord Robert Fellowes

Lady Jane Fellowes, 61, is Diana's elder sister. One of her godparents is the Queen's cousin, the Duke of Kent.

She is married to Robert Fellowes, a former Private Secretary to the Queen and first cousin of Ronald Ferguson, the father of Sarah, Duchess of York.

In June 1999, Robert Fellowes was granted a life peerage as Baron Fellowes, of Shotesham in the County of Norfolk, after first being knighted as Sir Robert Fellowes. The couple have three children and four grandchildren.

Laura Fellowes

Laura, 37, is very close to William and Harry and is one of Princess Charlotte's godparents.

She married equity analyst Nick Pettman in 2009 in Snettisham, west Norfolk, where her parents live in an old rectory. William and Kate were both guests.

Laura writes fiction under the name Mave Fellowes — her nickname is Mavis — and has sons.

Alexander Fellowes

Alexander — known as Beetle to friends — is a 35-year-old investment banker. He married Alexandra Finlay at the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft in the Palace of Westminster in September 2013. Prince Harry attended the wedding.

Alexander and Alexandra have two children, Robert, three, named after his grandfather, and 18-month-old Rose.

Eleanor Fellowes

Eleanor Fellowes, 32, keeps a relatively low profile and is rarely seen at public events. She is believed to work as a probation officer and has published articles on issues relating to her profession.

The Spencers

Charles Spencer and Karen Gordon

Charles, 53, the 9th Earl Spencer, is the most high profile of Princess Diana's siblings. In his eulogy at Diana's funeral, the journalist and broadcaster criticised the Royal Family and the Press on their treatment of his sister.

In 1989 Spencer, then known by the courtesy title of Viscount Althorp, married his first wife, Victoria Lockwood, in Great Brington, Northamptonshire. The couple, who divorced in 1997, had three daughters and a son.

In December 2001 he married Caroline Freud, former wife of Matthew Freud. The couple had two children together, Edmund and Caroline. They divorced in 2007.

Spencer married his current wife, Canadian-born philanthropist Karen Gordon, in June 2011 at the family seat of Althorp House. They have one child together, Lady Charlotte Diana Spencer, named after his sister.

The couple reside at the Spencer ancestral seat, Althorp House, which he inherited on his father's death in 1992.

Lady Kitty Spencer

Lady Kitty Spencer, 27, has forged a successful career as a model, most notably appearing in campaigns for Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana.

The socialite, who is signed with Kate Moss's former modelling agency Storm, is a regular fixture at the world's hottest parties and is sure to cause a stir at the Royal Wedding.

She is regarded as one of the most eligible young women on London's social scene, having split from her property tycoon boyfriend at the start of the summer. Lady Kitty grew up in South Africa and is now based in Fulham.

Lady Eliza and Lady Amelia Spencer

Twins Lady Eliza and Lady Amelia, 25, share their elder sister's good looks but keep a much lower profile.

Like their sister, the twins were raised in South Africa and attended university in Cape Town.

In 2011 Lady Amelia appeared in a South African court accused of assaulting a man on crutches in McDonald's. She was cleared of all charges.

Louis Spencer

Louis, 24, is the fourth child and eldest son of Earl Spencer and will therefore inherit his father's estates and title ahead of his elder sisters.

He studied at Diocesan College in Cape Town and later enrolled at the University of Edinburgh.

Edmund and Caroline Spencer

The Vanity Fair report makes no mention of Edmund and Caroline Spencer, Charles' children from his second marriage, receiving an invite to the royal wedding.

As Edmund, 14, and Caroline, 12, are still young, they perhaps wouldn't attend the late-night after-party.

Lady Charlotte Spencer

Lady Charlotte Diana, five, is Earl Spencer's youngest child and his only one with third wife Karen.

Like her half-siblings Edmund and Caroline, Lady Charlotte is not named in the Vanity Fair report and would be unlikely to receive a late-night party invite because of her age.
