According to the Blog Mintfo, Philippines has selected the SPYDER from Israel as new ground based air defense systems (GBDAS) for its armed forces. The SPYDER (Surface-to-air PYthon and DERby) is an Israeli-made short and medium range mobile air defence system developed by the Company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems with the collaboration of IAI (Israel Aerospace Industries).

The British Army has taken delivery of the first four cutting-edge bomb disposal robots T7 from U.S. Company Harris Corporation, following rigorous trials, has announced the British Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson on December 23, 2018. . A total of 56 robots are due to be delivered to the UK and in service by December 2020.

According to the Russian Press Agency Sputnik, Chinese army (PLA) has conducted a successful test of Russian-made S-400 Triumf (NATO code named SA-21 Growler) air defense missile system. During the test, missile of S-400 has shot down a ballistic target at a distance of 250 km and moving at a speed of 3 km/sec.

U.S. Company Raytheon has won a $692.9 million U.S. Army contract to produce Sweden's Patriot Integrated Air and Missile Defense System including spare parts, support and training. Raytheon’s Global Patriot™ Solutions is a missile defense system consisting of radars, command-and-control technology and multiple types of interceptors, all working together to detect, identify and defeat tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, drones, advanced aircraft and other threats.

Russia`s Strategic Missile Forces (Raketniye Voyska Strategisheskogo Naznacheniya, RVSN) will receive some 100 new weapon systems, including the Yars (NATO reporting name: SS-27 mod 2 or SS-29) intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) in mobile and silo-based configurations, by the end of 2018, Commander of the service Colonel General Sergey Karakayev said on December 17.

As presumed after the Tank Biathlon competition held in 2018, the sale of T-72B1 MBTs tor Laos was signed, as previously announced by Defense Studies. On 19 December 2018, as part of its modernization process, Hungary signed a contract for the procurement of 44 new Leopard 2 A7+ main battle tanks and 24 new PzH 2000 howitzers with German defense company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW). In addition, Hungary is acquiring 12 used Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks from KMW’s inventories for training purposes. The project represents a further step toward greater interoperability between European armed forces..

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) in cooperation with Elbit Systems and IMI's team is moving forward with Phase II of their Iron Fist Light (IFL) Active Protection System (APS) following the announcement of a positive Army Requirements Oversight Council (AROC) decision.

The Australian Defence Force has entered into two significant munitions contracts. Minister for Defence Christopher Pyne said the Commonwealth has signed a three-year contract worth AU$81.6 million with NIOA of Brisbane to supply 81mm high explosive and practice mortar ammunition. "This acquisition will allow Army to sustain its current mortar capability ahead of projects to modernize the 81mm mortar fleet with a lighter weight system," Pyne said.

The Israeli-based aerostat company RT LTA Systems Ltd. announces it has won a tender in India, and will provide its SkyStar 180 aerostat system, together with a small tactical UAV, to a State Police Service in India. The systems will be delivered to the customer by the end of 2018, and will be used for police and intelligence applications.

Saab has received a contract for the Carl-Gustaf M4 multi-role weapon system to an undisclosed customer. Deliveries will take place in 2019-2024. The industry’s nature is such that, due to circumstances concerning the product and customer, further information about the customer will not be announced.

The Chinese armed reconnaissance drone CH-4 will be fitted with a new and stronger engine that would allow it to fly higher than the current version: its piston engine that burns gasoline will be replaced with a domestically made next-generation, heavy-fuel engine that burns kerosene, a spokesperson of the Chinese Academy of Aerospace and Aerodynamics (CAAA) under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp (CASC), the drone's manufacturer, told the Global Times on 18 December.

On December 18, 2018, the U.S. State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Turkey of eighty (80) Patriot MIM-104E Guidance Enhanced Missiles (GEM-T) missiles, sixty (60) PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missiles and related equipment for an estimated cost of $3.5 billion.
