Russia continues to deploy modern military equipment in Syria, according to a video released on YouTube, December 29, 2017, showing a Russian TOS-1A flamethrower unloaded from a truck in Syria's Idlib province published by the Telegram channel 338 on Instagram.

The Israeli Army continues to strenghten fire power of these infantry units by the use of armoured vehicle personnel carrier (APC) called Namer. According to the Israeli Newspaper website, the Givati Infantry Brigade will receive the Namer APC combat vehicles as the Golani units that already uses this type of vehicle.

The contract to deliver four battalions of Russian-made S-400 (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) surface-to-air defense missile (SAM) systems to Turkey is worth $2.5 billion, Head of Russia’s Rostec state hi-tech corporation Sergei Chemezov said in an interview with the Kommersant business daily.

The Russian Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) have tested advanced combat equipment during a launch of the Topol missile from a firing range in Russia. The results of the tests will be used to develop means to break effectively anti-missile defense systems, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD).

On 22 December 2017, Japan has released details of its defense budget for 2018 that will reached a total of $46 billion. The defense spending is part of Japan's $860 billion national budget for 2018, that is a record for the defense budget of Japan to over 5% of the entire $860 billion of Japanese national budget for 2018.

According to the Washington Post reported on December 20, 2017, that the U.S. State Department "approved a commercial license authorizing the export of Model M107A1 Sniper Rifles, ammunition, and associated parts and accessories to Ukraine, a sale valued at $41.5 million.

Iveco Defence Vehicles received a significant order from the German BwFuhrpark Service GmbH for a new fleet of military medium multipurpose 4x4 trucks for the German Army. The order encompasses the delivery of 280 Eurocargo trucks within 2018. The announcement, made on December 12, 2017, is a result of two years of intensive market evaluation and comprehensive practical trials with a demonstrator vehicle.

On  December 21, 2017, the Finnish Defence Forces received a mandate from Defence Minister Jussi Niinistö to procure a life cycle upgrade from the Finnish Patria Land Systems Oy. Life cycle upgrades are used to modernise 65 XA-180 6x6 wheeled armoured personnel carriers.

The new artillery formation of the combined arms army of the Western Military District of Russian army deployed in Moscow region received over ten 152mm self-propelled artillery guns 2S33 MSTA-SM2, the press service of the district said.

Oshkosh Defense, LLC, announced today that the U.S. Army has placed a $100.1 million order for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program, to include 258 vehicles and associated installed and packaged kits. This is the seventh order for JLTVs since the contract was awarded in August 2015. Intended to replace the aging up-armored HMMWV fleet, the JLTV program fills a critical capability gap in the U.S. military’s current vehicle line-up.

Iveco Defence Vehicles (Iveco DV) announces that on December 19, 2017 the company signed a contract with the Romanian Ministry of National Defence for the delivery of 173 military logistic vehicles, to be completed within 2018. This is further testament to Iveco DV’s leadership in technical and economic terms.

L3 Technologies announced today that it has been awarded an approximately $150 million contract from an international country to provide night vision equipment with next-generation accuracy, including L3’s Binocular Night Vision Goggles, Holographic Weapon Sights, Light Weapon Thermal Sights and Advanced Target Pointer Illuminator Aiming Lasers.

BAE Systems has signed a contract with Czech manufacturer Laser Centrum CZ, Ltd. to produce mechanical components for the Swedish Army’s Mjölner mortar system based on CV90 tracked combat vehicle chassis. The agreement represents BAE Systems’ first agreement with a supplier in the Northern Liberec region of the Czech Republic.

On Wednesday, December 20, 2017, Norway’s defence ministry has announced the purchase of the K9 155 artillery self-propelled howitzers designed and manufactured by the South Korean Company Hanwha Land Systems. The contract that includes also the artillery howitzer K9, ammunition and transport vehicles will reach an ammount of $383 million.

China and Russia wrapped up the second "Aerospace Security 2017" Chinese-Russian Joint Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) defense computer command post exercise (CPX) on Dec. 16. The two militaries achieved new breakthroughs in anti-missile cooperation through the exercise, said the information bureau of China's Ministry of National Defense in a written statement on December 16, 2017.

Following an order for SPIKE Missiles signed in 2015 by the Romanian government from EuroSpike GmbH (a joint venture between Rafael, Diehl and Rheinmetall), the Romanian Army has recently completed testing and evaluation of ten SPIKE LR (Long Range) missiles. The missiles were fired as part of the Romanian army procurement and evaluation process at the Cincu National Training Center in Braşov, Romania.

After their meeting on December 13, 2017, with the Prime Minister, Ambassador Richard and General Votel announced three new U.S. Department of Defense programs of assistance to continue to build the LAF’s (Lebanese Armed Forces) capability to conduct border security and counter terrorism operations.

They are thus the first German company to offer a turnkey solution for 3D printing.

On 15 December 2017 Rheinmetall transfers the first of two heavily protected Survivor R transport vehicles to the Saxony State Police. The second system will be delivered before Christmas. The Free State of Saxony ordered the two vehicles from Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) in February of this year. Forming part of an extensive anti-terror package, the vehicles will be used to equip special police units in Saxony.

Thales has been awarded a US$37 million contract from the U.S. Army to equip the new rapidly deployable security force assistance brigades (SFAB) with the AN/PRC-148C Improved Multiband Inter-Intra Team Radio (IMBITR), establishing it as the first dual-channel, certified networking radio to enhance communications at the tactical edge providing joint and coalition forces interoperability.

Bionic Power has received a contract valued at CDN$1.16 million, under the Government of Canada’s Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP), to supply low-volume production units of its PowerWalk® Kinetic Energy Harvester to the Director of Land Requirements (DLR) and Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) for field testing with the Canadian Armed Forces. The Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, announced the BCIP contracts on December 8 at the BC Tech Association Hub, in Vancouver.

On December 12, 2017, the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command has received a mandate from the Finnish Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö to order the Protected MultiPurpose Vehicles (PMPV) MiSu manufactured by the Finnish Company Protolab Oy for field trial tests.
