ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Imagine Celtic folk music. Hear those fiddles? Play them fast and add jazzy piano riffs. It's getting very busy, a bit avant-garde. That's the music of southern Vermont quartet Assembly showcasing their new CD, January EP."
-The Village Voice

"To me, Assembly's music equals: energy, feeling, innovation, depth, fun and life-great tunes, skillfully arranged and played with fire!"
-Jay Ungar

Assembly, the young avant-folk quartet from southern Vermont, has a distinctive, driving sound that has drawn praise from such disparate sources as Irish fiddler Martin Hayes, The Village Voice, Los-Angeles Punk Zine Flipside and nationally known folk magazine SingOut!, and has caught the attention of The Boston Globe and NPR's All Things Considered. And all this for a group which formed in 1995, under the name Popcorn Behavior, when the band's members - then a trio - were aged 10, 12, and 13.

Piano, mandolin, fiddle, and drum, all occupying a fairly small range, sometimes hard to distinguish from each other, create a densely packed, overlapping texture, a wall of sound. The result is mesmerizing, trance-like music, combining dance-oriented rhythmic drive and meditative serenity.

Their multi style music could reach me as a Japanese.
They are maybe categorised as American folk music, but I don't think so because the main performer plays the Irish style violin, the piano that has the nice harmonic rhythm is as a rock piano, and the drum creates a jazzy mood. Their music what is also like minimal music tell us the width of the their field. It is so beautiful music that free from demarcation, and gets across any music genres.
Especially "Steampacket" is fair. I that listen it on the net radio got down into the music, I decided to buy their album. Their multi style music could reach me as a Japanese.

PHENOMENAL ACCOMPLISHMENT!
If I could give it 10 stars instead of five, I would. This album is absolutely remarkable. The music is entrancing and profoundly enlivening. Never in my life has an album encompassed so much emotion. It literally brought me to tears of joy. The songs interweave an array of tones and rhythms to make each track precise and probing. This music is, quite simply, miraculous.

New energy and plain jammin'
I took a chance on this one never having heard of it and not knowing enough about music to fully appreciate talent. I bought it for my long runs and it is truly energizing. I get lost in the suttle trances and can just run forever. Super music, I'm aready searching for more.
