Thales has been present in Poland since 1992 and currently employs more than 280 people. The Group provides its customers with technologically advanced solutions for the Aerospace, Ground Transportation, Defence, Security and Space domains.
Thales is a key player on the Polish market for rail signalling solutions. In cooperation with the Polish industry, Thales proposes its expertise for advanced air defence, tactical vehicles, naval and unmanned aerial solutions for the modernisation of the Polish Armed Forces.
Furthermore, Thales is deeply involved in science as well as research and development cooperation with universities and higher education institutions. The company takes part in several partnership programmes with academic institutions in Poland:
- in 2014, Thales and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków signed a cooperation agreement concerning joint science and research as well as research and development projects connected with the space sector and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). The objectives of the collaboration include supporting the growth of young engineers by enabling their participation in the programme of joint Polish-French PhD studies;
- in March 2015, Thales and Warsaw University of Technology signed a letter of intent concerning science as well as Research & Development collaboration. The cooperation involves joint developments in the area of air defence, space technologies and unmanned aerial vehicles;
- in March 2017, Thales and The Cardinal Wyszyński University in Warsaw signed a cooperation agreement concerning joint projects connected with information security and drones;
- Thales has also concluded cooperation agreements with the Polish Naval Academy in Gdynia, the Military University of Technology in Warsaw and the Kazimierz Pułaski University of Technology and Humanities in Radom.
Ground Transportation
• Leader of the rail signalling systems market in Poland and the first company to successfully implemented the ETCS level 1 system in the country
• Thales systems control the railway traffic on over 800 km of rail track and are being implemented on another 900 km
Defence
• Tacticos Combat Management system on board the Orkan-class ships and ORP Ślązak patrol vessel
• 10,000 PR4G tactical radios manufactured for the Polish market
Security
• Poland’s Border Guard has chosen thermal imagers of the Sophie type. The Border Guard is currently using 100 of these devices
