The ACMAT
VLRA TDN-TDE Commando is a high mobility tactical vehicle developed
and designed by the French Defence manufacturer ACMAT defence to provide
a new concept of high mobility and payload with fire power for Special
Forces Operations or reconnaissance missions. The VLRA Commando was
unveiled at Eurosatory 2010, the defence exhibition in Paris. The vehicle
is based on the chassis of the standard light tactical truck VLRA TDN-TDE.
The new VLRA TDN-TDE, heir of 60 years of experience in driving Forces in
the most challenging terrain, integrates up-to-date technologies to
increase the mobility, payload and fire power. The VLRA Commando is
full open-top vehicle for the crew cab and the troop compartment at
the rear. With a maximum payload of 4,500 kg, the VLRA TDN-TDE Commando can
carry a large quantity of fuel, ammunition, food and water, allowing
Special Forces units to travel great distances, and perform their missions
in complete autonomy during several days. The VLRA TDN-TDE Commando is easily
transportable by C-130, C-160, and A400M or by helicopter CH-47 Chinook. |
Armament |
Fire power
is one of the main requests for Special Forces Operations
vehicle, the VLRA TDN-TDE Commando is fitted with a roof-mounted
station which can be armed with a 7.62, 12.7 mm machine gun
or 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. The front and the rear

Design
and Protection |
The
layout of the VLRA TDN-TDE Commando is standard with the engine at
the front, crew cab at center and troop's compartment at the
rear. The crew cab has a windscreen which can be folded forward
onto the bonnet which increases the visibility of the driver
and the commander. The crew is protected by a tubular frame
roll-bar. The troop's area can carry 3 soldiers with a maximum
payload of 4,500 kg. Seats can be fitted down the sides or center
of the cargo area for carrying personnel. The VLRA Commando
is based on the standard VLRA TDN-TDE with open-top crew and rear
compartment which allows to carrying multiple weapon systems
while providing maximum situational awareness for its operators.
In this manner, either the operator in the rear could stand
up to observe from the open hatch or engage hostile targets.
In option the vehicle can be upgraded with armour protection
kit to increase protection against small arms firing and mine
blast.

Propulsion |
The
VLRA TDN-TDE Commando is motorized with a Volvo 5.0-litre Turbo Diesel
Intercooler engine developing a power output of 190 hp (140
kW) at 2,300 rpm coupled to a six-speed ZF manual or five-speed
automatic gearbox. In standard configuration, the vehicle is
delivered with two fuel tanks with a capacity of 180 liters
each, allowing it to travel long distances without refueling.
The VLRA Commando can run at a maximum speed of 110 km/h with
a maximum range of 1,400 km. The VLRA TDN-TDE Commando uses a 4x4
chassis with parabolic multi-leaf suspension and oleo-pneumatic
shock absorbers. The VLRA TDN-TDE has ground clearance of 600 mm maximum,
and is capable of bridging a 1,000 mm gap and has a maximum
approach angle of 45-degrees. |
Accessories |
The
standard equipment of VLRA Commando includes a self-recovery
6,800 kg capacity winch mounted at the front of the chassis,
four 20-litre jerrycans for additional fuel or water, runflat
device system, 24-volt pre-equipment kit for radio communication
systems, and a spare wheel on each side of the troop's compartment.
