SRC, Inc.’s AN/TPQ-49 Radar system supported the Canadian Armed Forces, providing air surveillance for the 2018 G7 Summit in Charlevoix, Quebec. The radar system added to mission success by providing persistent air surveillance using SRC’s LSTAR software, a program that specifically tunes the radar for optimal detection of airborne targets, both large and small.

On 23 January, abundant snowfall could not stop a visit of a big group of second and fourth year cadets of Kharkov National Academy of National Guard of Ukraine. The U.S. Marine Corps is looking to plus up the firepower aboard its new amphibious combat vehicle with a 30mm cannon, Todd South reports on The Marine Times. Officials with Marine Corps Systems Command posted a request for information on the government website FedBizOpps on 28 January. The ACV will replace the aging assault amphibious vehicle, which entered service in the early 1970s.

Optex Systems Holdings, a manufacturer of precision optical sighting systems for domestic and worldwide military and commercial applications, announced a $1.0 million order associated with its continuing support of the M1 Abrams Tank Program. The products will be manufactured at the Applied Optics Center (AOC) Division of Optex Systems, Inc. With this order, Optex’s current backlog stands at over $25.6 million.

The Belgian company CMI (Cockerill Mechanical Industries), based in Seraing near Liège, signed on Monday 28 January an agreement with Saudi Arabia to create a joint venture specialized in tank and wheeled armored vehicle turrets, reports the Belgian newspaper L'Echo on Wednesday, January 30. The goal is to design and manufacture military equipment on site.

FLIR Systems has been awarded a $39.6 Million order to deliver FLIR Black Hornet Personal Reconnaissance Systems (PRS) in support of the U.S. Army. The highly capable nano-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems delivered under this contract will support platoon and small unit level surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities as part of the Soldier Borne Sensor (SBS) Program.

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems will test the Trophy APS (Active Protection System) on Germany’s Leopard 2 main battle tanks, The Jerusalem Post has reported. A spokesman for Rafael Advanced Defense Systems confirmed reports that the company will be testing the system on the Leopard 2 later this year, along with the tank’s manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann.

For the first time, servicemen of a special forces unit of the Uzbek Defense Ministry are taking part in Southern Strike joint force exercises at Camp Shelby, military base in Mississippi, the Uzbek Ministry of Defense said. Exercise scenarios are designed to meet current global crises and the individual training needs of the involved units.

The Belgian company has signed a big contract with the Belgian federal police to provide armored sedans, reports the Belgian financial newspaper L'Echo. This is a seven-year contract to supply approximately seven cars a year, starting in 2019, to replace the aging armored sedans. Carat Duchatelet has won against international players following a call for tenders.

World-class specialist in design and production of high-specification armored vehicles, US-based Jankel Tactical Systems (part of the global Jankel group of companies), have been awarded contracts to supply armored Chevrolet Suburbans and Toyota Land Cruisers to the US Marshals Service, America’s first federal law enforcement agency and, the US Customs and Border Patrol; one of the world’s largest law enforcement organizations.

Aimpoint, the originator and worldwide leader in red dot sighting technology, has introduced the ACRO P-1™ pistol sight to the US market. This compact sight design was developed primarily for use on handguns but offers broad applications for other firearms as well. The Acro P-1 sight can also be used on rifles, shotguns, and carbines, or as a compact electronic backup sight.

Rosoboronexport will fulfil its contracts to produce Kalashnikov rifles in Venezuela despite the crisis in the country, the arms trader said. "Rosoboronexport always fulfils its commitments. The commissioning plans for the facilities have been specified and nothing will stop the implementation in the agreed time," it said.

Russian firearms manufacturer TsNIITochMash (an affiliate of the public corporation Rostec) will issue a civilian version of Russia’s newest handgun Udav for professional athletes. The weapons’ parameters will be competitive with those of Colt, Glock and other foreign counterparts, Rostec’s press-service said on 24 January.

The U.S. Marine Corps wants to spend nearly a third of its Fiscal Year 2020 money on modernizing its equipment and nearly another third on rebuilding readiness, a top officer said, Megan Eckstein reports on USNI News. Lt. Gen. Brian Beaudreault, deputy commandant for plans, policies and operations, said last week that the service is requesting to spend $14 billion on modernization and $13.8 billion on near-term readiness, or about 30 percent of the total budget each.

The Philippine Department of National Defense (DND) is planning to acquire a SPYDER air defense system. The SPYDER is built by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems of Israel. The DND says it will purchase the SPYDER, but still needs to determine the quality. The Philippine government is involved a significant military modernization program. The DND has already purchased SPIKE-ER missiles from Israel for the Philippine Navy.

After the success of the first range experiment of the Directed Energy Experimentation Campaign at White Sands Missile Range, in October 2018, the 704th Test Group’s Directed Energy Combined Test Force is now planning future experiments in support of the campaign. The Air Force Strategic Development Planning and Experimentation office at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, tasked the 704th TG Directed Energy Combined Task Force at Kirtland Air Force Base to execute the DE Experimentation Campaign. The task force is an operating unit of Arnold Engineering Development Complex, which is headquartered at Arnold AFB, Tennessee.

As Deputy Defence Minister of the Russian Federation General of the Army Dmitry Bulgakov announce, the tanks will be placed at the disposal of the Kantemirov division. According to him, tank crews will start training for the Victory Parade in the near future. Artillery crews of the Vislenskaya motorized rifle division of combined-arms army of the Western Military District in the Voronezh region have adopted for service more than 20 modernized self-propelled artillery howitzers of the Msta-SM2 caliber, the press service of the Western Military District said.

Elbit Systems UK Ltd., as the prime contractor, together with QuantaDyn Corporation, recently completed delivery of a mobile Close Air Support (CAS) and joint fires simulator to the British Army. Built as a bespoke solution to satisfy requirement, the Joint Fires Mobile Trainer (JFMT) is now in active service with the Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC) and Fire Support Teams (FST) of the 1st Artillery Brigade.

Among the news collected on 24 January at the International Armoured Vehicles 2019 conference taking place in London, the Australian Defence Force has asked Rheinmetall Defence to evaluate Israel’s "Iron Fist" Active Protection System (APS) developed by Elbit Systems’ IMI.
