Russia`s Ministry of Defense (MoD) will beef up the capabilities of the Syrian air defense (AD) system in accordance with an instruction given by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, according to Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu. The Syrian governmental forces are set to receive a modern variant of the S-300 surface-to-air missile system, the S-300 PMU-2 (SAM) within two weeks.

Bittium will supply its tactical Bittium Tough SDR Vehicular radios together with the ESSOR High Data Rate Waveform (ESSOR HDR WF) to the pilot vehicles of the Spanish Army’s VCR 8x8 vehicle programme (Vehículo de Combate sobre Ruedas). In the scope of the VCR 8x8 programme the Spanish Army will acquire new combat vehicles and related data transfer systems to replace their current, long-lived combat vehicles.

The U.S. Department of Defence announced on 24 September that the U.S. Army had signed a modification to contract for High Mobility Engineer Excavator Type-1 vehicles. JCB Inc. was awarded a $72,7 million modification to contract W56HZV-14-D-0066 for this type of engineer vehicle. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of April 28, 2019.

According the website baodatviet.vn, Russia has started the production of first batch of T-90S main battle tanks for the Vietnamese army at the Uralvagzonvad plant in Russia. In July 2017, the Russian News Agency TASS has announced that Russian Company Uralvagonzavod will supply 64 T-90S main battle tanks to Vietnam.

On September 24, 1st Cavalry Division soldiers completed a two-month program field testing the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV). 4th Squadron, 9th U.S. Cavalry Regiment "Dark Horse," 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team teamed up with the U.S. Army Operational Test Command (USAOTC), the Army's only independent operational test organization.

Turkey on Monday donated military equipment to Gambia at latter’s military headquarters in the capital, Banjul. Among the donated items were 5,000 sets of uniforms, 1,359 cartridges and belts, 5,000 water bottles, 50 five-man tents and 50 20-man tents.

Sometime in the summer of 2019, the Indian Army will conduct validation trials of the Israeli-made Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Spike anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) in the Rajasthan desert. New Delhi will then decide whether to procure the weapon systems as a “stopgap” measure before India can field its own indigenous ATGM system.

Switzerland has released a statement on the official website of the Swiss armed forces procurement agency regarding the purchase of a new air defense missile system. A request for bids was sent to three Companies including Eurosam from France, Rafael from Israel and Raytheon from United States.

Global vehicle solutions provider, AM General, has been awarded a $51.3 million contract to recapitalize High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) for the U.S. Army. The company will utilize its longstanding and proven Public Private Partnership (PPP) program with the Red River Army Depot (RRAD) to deliver mission-capable, like-new M1152 and M1165 HMMWV variants.

Researchers at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) developed a new type of thermal imaging camera that allows soldiers to see hidden objects that were previously undetectable, as reported by ARL Public Affairs. Dr. Kristan Gurton, an experimental physicist in the Computational and Information Sciences Directorate, and Dr. Sean Hu, an electronics engineer in the Sensors and Electron Devices Directorate, are leading this effort for the laboratory.

The Spanish ministry of Defense has awarded Star Defense Logistics Engineering (SDLE]) a 7.5 million euros contract to supply spare parts for the Spanish army’s Pizarro armored infantry fighting vehicles (AIFV). The spare parts will be delivered between 2018 and 2020 and bundled in seven batches. the framework contract includes the options for an extension of another three years for the same amount of seven and a half million euros.

On September 17, Brazil received the last of 23 AAV amphibious assault vehicles. The vehicles arrived at the Galeão Air Force Base aboard a U.S. Air Force C-17A Globemaster III transport aircraft. With this delivery, Brazil's Marine Corps now has 49 AAVs in its inventory.

The Norwegian Defence Material Agency (NDMA) has awarded FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH (FFG) a further contract for the delivery of Leopard 2-based WiSENT 2 Armored Engineer Vehicles (AEV) and further services. This new contract was signed on September 20, 2018, approximately three years after the first contract for Norwegian WiSENT 2 Armored Recovery Vehicles (ARV), which are currently being delivered ahead of schedule and within the budget. The AEV features high logistical commonality with the latest Leopard 2 MBT A7 version.

Saab has signed a contract with Republic of Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) concerning support for the Arthur Weapon Locating System. This Performance Based Logistics (PBL) contract includes spare parts supply and support for the Republic of Korea Army and Marine Corps. The contract value is approximately SEK500 million ($56.8 million) and will be valid for the 2018 through 2023 period.

American Ordnance has received a $56.9 million contract modification for foreign military sales of 155mm HE projectile M795 TNT rounds. The contract, announced on 21 September by the U.S. Department of Defense, provides ammunition to Austria and Lebanon. The estimated contract completion date is December 2021.

The Army fired a modified M777 howitzer double its previous range, bringing the service one step closer to delivering the prototype Long-Range Cannon capability. The live fire demonstration, which took place at Yuma Proving Ground on Sept. 19, was a significant step in the Army's effort to rapidly prototype and equip select units with an interim Long-Range Cannon solution. This increase in firepower, targeted for Army Infantry and Stryker Brigade Combat Teams and Marine Corps Expeditionary Formations, is a subset of the Army's top modernization priority of Long-Range Precision Fires.Nancy Jones-Bonbrest, Army Rapid Capabilities Office, reports.

The Southern Military District (YuVO) of the Russian Ministry of Defense is developing new counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (C-UAV) tactics, according to the MoD. Special mobile C-UAV teams have already been integrated into all formations of the district. "The main task of those teams is the detection and elimination of various UAVs," the MoD said.

On Sept. 20, the U.S. Army announced that the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Armored Division (1/1 AD) stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, will convert from a Stryker brigade combat team (SBCT) to an armored brigade combat team (ABCT); and the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division (2/4 ID) stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, will convert from an infantry brigade combat team (IBCT) to an SBCT.

At DVD 2018, military vehicles exhibition in Millbrook, United Kingdom, British Defence Minister Stuart Andrew has announced a major step to supply new fleet of 8x8 armored vehicles Boxer to the British army. The Boxer is a German-Dutch multirole armored fighting vehicle produced by the ARTEC GmbH (ARmoured vehicle TEChnology) industrial group, and the program is being managed by OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation).

On 20 September, India Thursday successfully test-fired its surface-to-surface short range ballistic missile called Prahaar in its eastern state of Odisha, officials said. The indigenously developed missile was flight tested from launching complex-III of the integrated test range (ITR) in Chandipur.

While our current combat fleet is composed of very capable vehicles, these vehicles have been in the inventory for decades and their ability to overmatch peer capabilities in close combat is starting to wane, the US Army NGCV Cross-Functional Team said on September 17, 2018. As the US Army prepares for future combat operations, it needs new platforms, with future growth margins, to maintain our ability to dominate the battlefield.

Between September 10 and 13, 2018, a Spanish army delegation was in Brazil to see a demonstration of the Brazilian-made ASTROS 2020 MLRS Multiple Launch Rocket System. The Spanish army could be interested to acquire latest generation of ASTROS designed and manufactured in Brazil.

Rheinmetall, through its joint venture Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV), is supporting the programme to modernize part of the British military’s fleet of logistic vehicles with a new loading system. A total of 382 retrofit kits for the Enhanced Pallet Loading System, or EPLS, will be supplied and integrated into the tried-and-tested HX trucks of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. Booked in the first half of 2018, the RMMV contract is worth over €43 million. Shipping and retrofitting are to be completed by the end of January 2021.
