Kit Harington and wife Rose Leslie say Game Of Thrones 'tethered' them as a couple as they join co-stars for a 'final hurrah' at season 8 premiere

Kit Harington and his wife Rose Leslie revealed they were 'tethered' by Game of Thrones as they attended the final series premiere in New York on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old actor - who plays King in the North Jon Snow in the HBO series - met his now-wife Rose, also 32, when she played wildling Ygritte in the fantasy drama.

Speaking at the premiere, Kit said: 'I said to Rose the other night, I was like, "We've been tethered by this show, a long time we've loved it".

'And now we get to enjoy the final hurrah.'

While the final episodes of the show haven't yet aired, Kit already feels like it's in the past because he and his castmates said 'goodbye' once filming ended.

He told Entertainment Tonight: 'In some ways, has ended for us. When we finished filming, we said goodbye to it, so this sort of feels like an added bonus that we get to watch it and celebrate it now."

The couple looked elegant as they hit the red carpet at the premiere at New York City's Radio City Music Hall.

While Harington's character Jon Snow is still one of the show's most pivotal characters, Leslie's 'wildling' character Ygritte was killed at the end of Season 4.

Harington looked dapper in a black-on-black suit with no tie and black shoes, with a watch peeking out from under his jacket.

Romance: While Harington has been on Game of Thrones since the beginning in 2011, Leslie joined the series as the wildling warrior Ygritte in Season 2

The couple announced their engagement in September 2017 after five years of dating, and they were married in June 2018.

At the same time that their characters formed a romantic connection, the actors did as well, but the real life romance lasted much longer than the on screen romance.

Leslie's character Ygritte was killed off in the Season 4 finale in 2014, much to the chagrin of Harington's Jon Snow.

At the end of Game of Thrones Season 7, Harington's Jon Snow went to King's Landing with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) to warn Queen Cersei about the white walkers.

While Cersei pledged to help fight this undead army, she secretly sent Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek) to fetch The Golden Army, an army of assassins who fight for whoever pays them the most.

While Snow and Targaryen are on their way north to Winterfell, under the assumption that Cersei will help their cause, that seemingly won't be the case in the final season.

Harington also returned to the big screen earlier this year by voicing Eret in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

After leaving Game of Thrones, Leslie went on to star as Maia Rindell on the CBS All Access streaming service The Good Fight, a spin-off The Good Fight.

And at the weekend, the Pompeii actor will guest host Saturday Night Live, admitting it's a 'dream come true' to star on the iconic comedy series.

He said: 'It's brilliant. That's a dream come true. I could hear the crowd of people cheering the final season of my show while I was doing the read through for 'SNL'. That was a bizarre moment for me.'

The final season of Game of Thrones debuts Sunday, April 14 at 9 PM ET on HBO.
