Notre Dame Cathedral has gone up in flames this evening in a roaring blaze that devastated the Parisian landmark, leaving the city, France , and the international community distraught. Flames that began in the early evening burst through the roof of the centuries-old cathedral and engulfed the spire, which collapsed, quickly followed by the entire roof. While a huge plume of smoke wafted across the city and ash fell over a large area, Parisians and tourists watched on (pictured centre) as some (pictured bottom) gathered together to pray.

She's facing a prison sentence along with her husband for their involvement in the national college admissions bribery scandal. And while it's not been reported that Lori Loughlin is planning on downsizing from her huge mansion in Bel Air, California, a removal truck arrived to take away some furniture on Monday. In pictures taken outside the gates of her $35 million property, movers could be seen loading up a truck with some items from Lori's home.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and former U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning had reason to believe that leaking U.S. military reports 'would cause injury' to the country, federal prosecutors alleged in a newly unsealed court filing on Monday. In the affidavit submitted to federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, prosecutors said U.S. military reports from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq included information about the "identity and significance of local supporters of U.S. and allied forces in Afghanistan.' When U.S. forces raided the compound in Pakistan where Osama bin Laden was hiding out, for example, they found a letter that showed the Al Qaeda leader was interested in copies of Pentagon documents published on WikiLeaks, the prosecutors said.

Katelyn McClure pleaded guilty in New Jersey on Monday for her role in scamming 14,000 donors out of $400,000 with the use of a feel-good tale involving a homeless man buying her gas. McClure (right, inset at top, and inset at bottom on the right) concocted a feel-good tale withher former boyfriend Mark D'Amico (inset at bottom in the center) about homeless man McClure will serve four years in state prison and must repay the $400,000 under the deal. Johnny Bobbitt (Inset at bottom on the left) rescuing McClure from the side of a highway to obtain scam GoFundMe contributions. Bobbitt was sentenced on Friday to five years of probation. D'Amico has denied wrongdoing.

A career conman who was bedding accused Russian operative Maria Butina (pair together main and inset) is alleged to have swindled $2.3 million from a number of high-powered Republicans using a variety of fraudulent schemes. A previously sealed search warrant reveals that Paul Erickson, 57, pocketed money from former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford and Parents Television Council founder Leo Brent Bozell III by promising big returns on a number of bogus businesses. The first was a real estate development in North Dakota's newly cash flush Bakken region, the second was a chin of retirement facilities and the  third was a wheelchair that allowed the individual using the device to access toilets without having to get off the chair. A portion of this money was then used to wine and dine and educate Maria Butina, his 30-year-old lover and a Kremlin special agent who pleaded guilty this December to charges stemming from her attempts to infiltrate conservative political groups.

An architectural feat that led Paris’s famous Notre-Dame Cathedral to be known as ‘The Forest’ is now likely a major contributor in its destruction, as a fire rips through its all-wood frame. A fire broke out at the 12th century cathedral around 6 p.m. GMT (2 p.m. EDT) Monday and quickly grew to engulf the entire wooden interior; the spire collapsed not long after the blaze began, and officials say the frame will be completely destroyed. The entire frame of the 850-year-old building is made from timber, with an estimated 1,300 trees used for the construction of its beams.

Notre Dame is an enduring gothic masterpiece, a place of pilgrimage for Roman Catholics from all over the world and symbol of French nationhood. Its two huge Gothic towers, unique rose windows, rich sculptural adornments and menacing gargoyles are at the centre of one of the most recognisable urban vistas on the planet. Construction began in 1163 on the site of an older church – and before that a pagan temple – under the reign of Louis VII, with the foundation stone laid by Pope Alexander III. The ribbed vault (bottom centre) was built with groundbreaking techniques and the rose windows (bottom right) are among the largest in the world. The 13th century spire was replaced in the 1850s (pictured main under construction) after interest in the building was reignited by Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame (played in 1939 by Charles Laughton, pictured bottom left).

President Donald Trump said Monday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has lost control of her caucus and Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Muslim congresswoman from Minnesota, is running the show. As he prepared to fly to Omar's home state for a tax day event, the president called the Minnesota Democrat an 'anti-Semite' who is 'ungrateful' in a tweet that questioned the Somalian-born lawmaker's loyalty to the United States. Omar and her family applied for asylum and relocated to the U.S. in the mid-90's. She became a U.S. citizen as a teen. 'Before Nancy, who has lost all control of Congress and is getting nothing done, decides to defend her leader, Rep. Omar, she should look at the anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and ungrateful U.S. HATE statements Omar has made. She is out of control, except for her control of Nancy!' he claimed.

Students and alums from a small evangelical college in Indiana are outraged that Vice President Mike Pence has been invited to give this year's commencement speech. More than 3,700 people have signed a petition on change.org that calls for the invitation for the vice president to be speak at the ceremony in May be rescinded. 'Inviting Vice President Pence to Taylor University and giving him a coveted platform for his political views makes our alumni, faculty, staff and current students complicit in the Trump-Pence Administration's policies, which we believe are not consistent with the Christian ethic of love we hold dear,' the petition reads. The announcement that Pence would be the school's speaker was made last week.

The bodies of two young women who were found dead in a Texas oil field that was dubbed the infamous Killing Fields have finally been identified after 30 years following a breakthrough in forensic DNA analysis. Police on Monday identified the two women as Audrey Lee Cook, from Memphis, Tennessee, and Donna Prudhomme, from Port Arthur, Texas. Cook was found in 1986 and Prudhomme was discovered in 1991. The identification of their bodies comes decades after their grisly remains were discovered in the oil field along Calder Road in League City just outside Houston. 

Daniel Zapata de los Santos, 34, (right) and Angelixs Martinez-Zayas, 20, (left) of Brockton, Massachusetts, were picked up in a traffic stop while traveling to get married. Officers served them with a search warrant for their apartment where they allegedly found almost $15,000 worth of fentanyl and crack cocaine (lower right). De los Santos is also suspected of using a forged driver's license, while Martinez-Zayas, a pregnant mother of three was charged with child endangerment.

Police in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday released body camera footage that shows a 22-year veteran cop fatally shooting Danquirs Franklin (inset), 27, outside a Burger King on March 25. Officer Wende Kerl repeatedly yelled for Franklin to put down his gun and opened fire on him less than a minute after exiting her cruiser.

Charise Thompson (right after the attack and left with her son James) was attacked by a gang of six men as she changed a car tire by the side of a highway between the cities of Freer and Laredo, in Duval County, Texas. She was left for dead at the side of Highway 59 after the thugs drilled holes into her ankles and tried to hang her upside down. Thompson suffered devastating internal injuries, shattered teeth and 14 broken bones, including two fractured legs, in the horrific assault in November 1981. After the attack Thompson crawled on her elbows two-and-a-half miles along the side of the road to get back to her four-year-old, James, who was still sleeping in the car. Although the brutal ordeal took place 38 years ago, Thompson wants to help others deal with the trauma of sex attacks.

Emmanuel Aranda (left), 24, has been charged with attempted premeditated first-degree murder for Friday's attack. Meanwhile, little Landen Hoffmann (right) is fighting for his life in a Minneapolis hospital with head trauma and multiple broken bones from the nearly 40-foot fall. A criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County on Monday says Landen and his mother were standing outside a restaurant when Aranda came close to them, picked up the child and tossed him over the balcony. The complaint says Aranda told police he had been coming to the mall for several years seeking to talk to women, but had been rejected and it caused him to lash out.

The family of eight-year-old Martin Richard, who was killed in the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013, attended the race on the sixth anniversary of the terror attack that claimed their son's life. Martin's parents, Bill and Denise Richard, were seen comforting one another as a moment of silence was held at 2.49pm. The bells of Old South Church were rung at 2.49pm - six years to the minute after the first of two bombs exploded on Boylston Street. Their son Henry also attended the race. Martin had been at the finish line with his parents, his brother, Henry, and their sister, Jane, who lost her leg during the attack. He was one of three people killed on April 15, 2013, while more than 260 others suffered injuries.

Police in Mississauga, Canada, are asking the public to help them catch the man who shot the 44-year-old woman in a 'premeditated, targeted and isolated attack.' Security camera video shows an unidentified man wearing a baseball cap and a glove while holding a large package and standing at a front door (left). Moments later, the 44-year-old victim opens her door and the two of them exchange words briefly before the attacker fires a large arrow from the crossbow he had hidden in the box. She suffered life-threatening injuries, but survived. Wendy Williams kicked off her Hot Topics segment on Monday with some breaking news about a major celebrity divorce - her own. The host revealed that she is just a few days away from moving out the sober living facility she has called home for the past few weeks, and is ready to start a new life for herself and another fellow addict. This announcement came just days after Williams served her philandering husband of 22 years with divorce papers. DailyMail.com revealed back in 2017 that Williams' now-estranged husband Kevin Hunter was having an affair with massage therapist Sharina Hudson, and just last month the couple welcomed their first child. That seemed to be the final straw for Williams, who said she has a new lease on life thanks to her sobriety and had spent the weekend with her sober friends and pow-wowing with her sister.

Sydney Monfries, 22, died on Sunday after breaking into the Bell Tower at the university's campus int he Bronx with a group of friends in the early hours of the morning. The journalism student and her friends had just had dinner at a barbecue restaurant and decided to climb the tower as a 'rite of passage' before graduating next month, according to staff there. After climbing the narrow staircase inside the tower, Monfries uploaded a video of the view to Snapchat, captioning it: 'Bell Tower,' according to The New York Times.

Chemistry teacher Miss Keloglou, of Bath, spotted the error in the formula of water, pictured left, in a post by Primark on Instagram. She tweeted about the gaffe (inset) and admitted not many people would have picked up on the scientific mistake. A fellow science teacher pointed out the blunder suggested the water fountains dispensed hydrogen gas. It isn't the first chemistry error in the store picked up by Miss Keloglou. She previously tweeted a snap of Primark's PS H2OHH facial cleansing wipes, captioning the post: 'Found a H4O molecule in the biggest Primark of the world (pictured right).'

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, 55, took two of his four children out for lunch and ice cream in New York City on Saturday. It was the first time he was seen since he finalized his divorce with MacKenzie Bezos on April 4. Bezos headed out with his daughter and one of his three sons where they ate lunch at Emily in Manhattan's West Village followed by sweets at Mah Ze Dar bakery. Bezos' left hand was notably bare as he took off his wedding ring. His divorce with MacKenzie follows news of his affair with news anchor Lauren Sanchez. In the divorce MacKenzie will keep a four percent stake in Amazon worth $35.8billion.

Footage uploaded on the Candy Shop Mansion Instagram on Sunday shows the five bikini-clad women and his executive assistant sprinting from the shoot as the kangaroo made its way through the yard of his Helensvale home on the Gold Coast. One of the women, Vanesa, dunked herself into the pool, earning her the title as 'the smartest' out of the group by followers online. Mr Beynon said: 'Vanesa was screaming ''RUN! RUN! RUN!'' like a horror movie.'

Twitter user Purple Godesss, from Maryland, made waves when she shared a picture of her dermatologist (left) on Twitter on 1st April. In the shot, the man doesn't seem to be aware he's being photographed, which led many to believe that the picture had been taken and shared online without his consent. The now-deleted thread was seen more than 1.6 million times and gathered more than 900,000 interactions (right)

Phra Sathit, 38, chased the victim, Nok, 30, as he ran out of a hut at Samut Prakan temple, Thailand, last Monday. Sathit then knocked the mentally handicapped man to the ground and punched and kicked him in the head four times before frog-marching him back into the hut. He told Buddhist officials that he attacked Nok after he was 'too rough' when he had been playing with his six-year-old son earlier in the day. Nok's mother agreed not to pursue the case against the monk if he transferred to a different temple away from the area and he has now been moved 50 miles away.

Los Angeles police released surveillance video of a hit-and-run that left a man with severe injuries and are asking for help identifying the driver of the car. Surveillance video caught the moment when a man, who was crossing the street against the light, was struck by a car that did not stop on Saturday at about 10.30pm in Los Angeles. The video shows the approximately 50-year-old man — who was not carrying ID and is being called 'John Doe' — using the pedestrian crossing at Third and Witmer streets. He can be seen stopping to let a car drive by, but just seconds later, as he turns to face oncoming traffic, he gets walloped, head-on, by a greyish car that doesn't appear to even try to slow down or avoid hitting him.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama joked with an audience in London about the furore caused by her breaching of royal protocol in 2009 when she placed an arm around the Queen at Buckingham Palace (pictured: on Sunday night at London's O2 arena, left; and with her arm around the Queen in 2009, right). She said: 'I don't know that I could have done anything differently because it was a natural human reaction.' Obama had been visiting with her husband when she made the gaffe but has previously stated the Queen told her the protocol was 'rubbish' on a later visit to Windsor Castle.

The 39-year-old, who is currently pregnant with her third child with husband Marc Mezvinsky, 41, stopped in at the Los Angeles Times Festival Of Books on Saturday to talk about Don't Let Them Disappear, her new kids' book on animals and endangered species. The mother-of-two looked very casual as she spoke on stage and signed autographs, wearing fitted dark jeans, a white blouse, a gray blazer, and practical old sneakers (center) that appeared to be quite stained and worn. It seems as though Chelsea may be recycling outfits on her book tour, and was seen wearing a near-identical ensemble while in Philadelphia two days earlier.

The spokesmodel position quickly became a coveted job in the modeling world as women worked hard to walk the runway and join the brand. Declan Bell-Wilson, 18, and Korey Streeter, 18, were arrested Thursday for allegedly beating up an autistic man in a shocking video (pictured) filmed on March 22 in Rolling Hills, California. Bell-Wilson is the son of former Rolling Hills Mayor Patrick Wilson, who was in office at the time of the attack. The two men were arrested at their homes on suspicion of assault, robbery and conspiracy. In the shocking video they're seen repeatedly punching the autistic victim who suffered bruises in the attack and had two cellphones stolen. He said the fight was over a girl.

Sergiy Zotov (inset) has been barred from officiating in the orthodox cathedral in Magnitogorsk, Russia over the 'scandal' - and has been exiled to a remote and sleepy village church 43 miles away. Oksana Zotova (left and right), 32, has faced brutal criticism and threats after being crowned 'Miss Sexuality' in the contest. Mr Zotov, 31, has been told he has no way back, unless his wife - a beauty therapist with her own salon - 'repents'. Mrs Zotova received a barrage of criticism for her 'sinful' behaviour and 'glamour lady appearance' despite no photos of her being risqué.

First officer Emilie Christine, 31, from Toronto, Canada, has over 38,000 followers on social media. She got her commercial pilot's licence in 2012 and now works for Canadian airline WestJet. Emilie flies a Dash 8-Q400 plane and has anywhere between 12 and 16 flights each week.
