Released in 1979, Mad Max was shot in and around Melbourne over 12 weeks, on a budget of less than $400,000.

The original 1979 film went on to gross $US100 million at the international box office, launching Mel Gibson's career along with it.

Supanova Festival attracts sci-fi lovers and comic enthusiasts from all over Australia, with a number fans dressing as their favourite characters.

In the past, Supanova has had Doctor Who's Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie as guests of honour at the parade.
