The proposal came just days after it was announced that Dr Griffin would not be returning to the reality show, in part, to focus on their relationship.

'He proposed after their hike and her sister was there,' a friend of the couple told People.

'He was so nervous! Jessica had no idea what was happening. It was a total surprise.'

The pair met during season six of MAFS, which eventually led to Dr Griffin offering expert marriage advice to Francetic and his then-wife, Molly Duff. They ended up deciding to get a divorced before the show's decision day.

According to People, Dr. Griffin and Francetic didn't start dating for more than five months after the season wrapped and then went public with their romance last August, which was three months later.

Shortly afterward, Francetic hit back at those who questioned whether their relationship was inappropriate and said the counseling he received on the show wasn't bound by medical ethics as a true doctor/patient interaction.

Then, just last Wednesday, he took to Twitter to defend the relationship.

'The funny part is that every time we tell someone the actual timeline in person, ‘scandalous’ is never the word they use,' he wrote.

'Too bad we aren't allowed to tell the truth on social media.'
