  • Cher tweeted an attack at President Trump's proposal to send thousands of illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities
  •  Trump said he could 'finally agree' with something Cher said in reference to her push to put the needs of American citizens over illegal immigrants
  • Cher is a vocal Trump critic and often tweets insults aimed at the president and his policies
  • Trump said at an event Friday that since sanctuary cities say they welcome illegal immigrants, those being held at the border should be sent to those cities after a 20-day holding period

President Donald Trump celebrated 'finally' agreeing with something musician Cher said.

'I finally agree with @Cher!' Trump tweeted Monday after his vocal critic said Sunday night that problems within American cities need to be address before focusing on illegal immigrants in the U.S.

Trump doubled-down at an event announcing new initiative on 5G Friday on previous claims that he would begin sending illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities.

'California is always saying 'We want more people.' We will give them a lot. We will give them an unlimited supply,' Trump told reporters at the event.

'And let's see if they're so happy,' Trump continued. 'They say 'we have open arms,' they're always saying they have open arms, let's see if they have open arms. The alternative is to change the laws, and we can do that very, very quickly, very easily. OK?'

Cher, who often takes to Twitter to insult the president and current administration, tweeted over the weekend that she doesn't want illegal immigrants sent to her city, which is a sanctuary city.

Instead Cher said outlasting problems in Los Angeles, like poverty and homelessness, need to be addressed first.

'I Understand Helping struggling Immigrants, but MY CITY (Los Angeles) ISNT TAKING CARE OF ITS OWN,' Cher lamented. 'WHAT ABOUT THE 50,000+ Citizens WHO LIVE ON THE STREETS.PPL WHO LIVE BELOW POVERTY LINE,& HUNGRY? If My State Can't Take Care of Its Own(Many Are VETS)How Can it Take Care Of More.'

Trump said during the event that since current law only allows illegal immigrants to be held for 20 days, he wants them to then be bussed to sanctuary cities once that 20-day holding period is up.

Although Trump continues to say he is "strongly considering" implementing the proposal, a White House official and a spokesman for DHS indicated to the Washington Post that the proposal is no longer under consideration.

Former DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen departed the White House after conflicting with Trump on several issues related to immigration.

Source told the Post that he would often direct her, and others at DHS, to lead initiatives that conflicted with U.S. law.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose district includes sanctuary city San Francisco, said at the wrap-up of the Democrats annual retreat last week that Trump's proposal is unbecoming of the president of a country made up of immigrants.
