State Rep. Ed Brooks, R-Reedsburg, explains a collection of legislative proposals in February 2018.

Former State Rep. Ed Brooks died April 23 after moving to hospice care while battling cancer. 

Brooks represented Wisconsin District 50 for 10 years until he decided not to run for re-election in 2018. He announced his cancer diagnosis in May 2017. 

Brooks' Facebook page recently announced he had been discharged from the hospital into hospice care. 

State Senator Howard Marklein, R-Spring Green, said a press release, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend Ed Brooks. Ed was far more than a legislative colleague. He was my friend and mentor and I will miss him."

Brooks also served as the town of Reedsburg chairman for 30 years.

A funeral for Brooks is scheduled for 11 a.m. April 29 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Rock Springs. Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. April 28 at Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg.
