Kate and Pete, 25, have both been in New York in recent weeks but have failed to meet up hinting that their relationship was fizzling.

And on Friday it was confirmed that their relationship is now over.

They began dating in January, but their casual romance is said to have 'fizzled out' because Kate struggled with the 'attention' surrounding the union.

A source told E! News the former couple remain in contact and plan to stay friends, adding: 'They still talk and are very friendly.'

The news came after it was reported the couple were cooling things down, according to People Magazine

A source close to the pair told the outlet that Kate and Pete 'decided to slow things down.'

A source told Page Six: 'Even though Kate has been in Hollywood for a long time, she struggled with the attention on her relationship with Pete. He lives his life with his heart on his sleeve.'

The Widow actress previously admitted she was 'surprised by the interest' in her romance with the comic.

She added: I've never been in this position before -- never dated anybody who comes with their own bag of mischief...

'It's all quite shocking, and something to get used to. I think if you liked the person less, you would bow out of it. If that were the main thrust of the relationship, there would be a problem. But it's not.'

And she felt the attention it was receiving felt a 'bit tired'. Pete previously defended the age gap between them, insisting it shouldn't be a big deal because people didn't question older men dating younger women.
