The former couple have joint custody of the boys, with the arrangement said to be each party having three days with them on rotation.

Britney is said to have had less than the 50/50 custody for several months leading up to her stay at the mental health facility, amid claims Kevin had the children most of the time when she was unwell.

Britney is set to leave the mental health facility she checked into voluntarily, as she has completed her 30-day stint.

According to TMZ, the Sometimes singer is feeling much better now, but they claim doctors are still trying to fine-tune her cocktail of medication.

Sources told the site: 'Britney's mental state is much better than it was when she checked in.

'The singer was upset over an illness her dad was battling, made exponentially worse by the fact the meds she'd been taking for her mental illness stopped working.'

It was previously reported that Britney's previous medications had lost efficacy and doctors were giving her replacements as trial and error.

However, TMZ reports they were 'doing more harm than good', so she stopped taking them altogether.'

Doctors aren't sure they have found the perfect formula yet and it continues to be a 'work in progress.'

It was also claimed by the website there is still 'significant concern' about Britney's mental state' and there are still issues with her judgment and perspective which go beyond medication.

The star is said to need intense therapy, which she has been receiving and will continue for the forseeable future.

MailOnline has contacted Britney's representatives for comment.

Sources were keen to stress to the site that Britney checked into the facility because she wanted to get her 'head straight' and not just because of her medication.

On Wednesday, Britney was back on social media and looked better than ever, as she told fans she had dropped a few pounds.

'She wrote: 'Who knew stress would be a great 5 pound weight loss. Yay for me.'

Fans had become increasingly concerned about Britney and her health after her former manager Sam Lufti tweeted his commentary the ongoing events surrounding the singer.

The comments came amid the circulating social media hashtag #FreeBritney, that implied the singer is being controlled against her free will.

Britney spoke out in a video shortly after and insisted that 'all is well' and that she'll be back in the limelight soon, while also hitting back at Lufti.

'I wanted to say hi, because things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!! Wow!!!' Spears said. 'There’s rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said.'

She went on to call out Sam directly: 'These fake emails everywhere were crafted by Sam Lutfi years ago... I did not write them.'

Britney continued: 'He was pretending to be me and communicating with my team with a fake email address. My situation is unique, but I promise I’m doing what’s best at this moment.'

Lufti, via Twitter, denied having any access to Britney's e-mail, saying he thought the remarks were put out by Britney's camp for the purpose of distracting the public and focusing their ire toward him.

In 2009, a judge granted a restraining order preventing Lufti from getting near Britney for three years.

Meanwhile, the latest report comes as Britney's beloved sister Jamie Lynn defender her in an impassioned post.

The actress, 28, took to Instagram with a disturbing video from a decade ago in which she protected her older sister, 37, after an unidentified woman yelled at her to leave the neighbourhood.

'10 years ago, who was there?? I have been here long before anyone else, and I’ll be here long after,' the mother-of-two wrote in the emotionally charged post before also telling those who criticised her to 'GTFOH' (Get the f*** out).

Jamie Lynn continued: 'I love my sister with everything I have. So, anyone or anything that speaks to the contrary can GTFOH with all the comments about what you don’t understand.

'Do not come for me or the ones I love anymore. You can move the “blank” outta here with all that, just like this other lady who was running her mouth,' she concluded.

Britney's mental health issues first came to light in before including the 2007 incident when she shaved her head at a salon in the Tarzana suburb of LA and spent time in and out of a Malibu rehab centre.

She was also photographed attacking a car with an umbrella following her 2007 divorce from Kevin Federline.

In 2008, Britney sought treatment before being hospitalised at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

As a result, a judge ruled that Federline would have sole custody of their two young sons, Sean and Jayden.

Shortly after, she was committed to the psychiatric ward of Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and put on 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold.

The court then placed her under temporary - and later permanent - conservatorship of her father Jamie and attorney Andrew Wallet, giving them complete control over her assets before she was released five days later.

Meanwhile, in early April TMZ reported that Spears has been struggling to cope with mental strain and will spend a month at the unspecified health facility.

Her sons Sean, 13, and Jayden, 12, with ex-husband Kevin, have been splitting their time with their father and at their mom's home with a caregiver on the premises, a source told the outlet.

Her father Jamie had major two surgeries to correct issues regarding his intestines and colon, an insider told TMZ.

He recently had the second procedure done but has still been suffering health complications, which prompted Spears to put a hold on her Las Vegas residency to be by his side.

A source told People magazine that the singer checked into a facility for 'all-encompassing wellness treatment' so she could 'focus on herself.'

'Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her. He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He's not doing well.

'They're so close and it has been a lot. There is nothing dramatic going on with her - she just realised she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself,' the source said.
