She famously revealed in 2013 that Russell Crowe told her to 'f**k off' when she approached the Gladiators star as a starstruck young actress.

And Rebel Wilson has now admitted the 55-year-old actor was much kinder to her when they crossed paths on the Hollywood circuit years later.

The Pitch Perfect 3 actress, 39, confessed that Russell warmly hugged her and jokingly whispered in her ear, 'I thought I told you to f**k off' during their second meeting.

Russell was initially brash to Rebel when she approached Nicole Kidman, who he was dining with, at a Sydney restaurant.

Rebel had wanted to thank Nicole for making her one of 16 actors at the Australian Theatre for Young People offered a scholarship through the actress' scheme.

Recalling how Russell shut her down, Rebel told Nova's Fitzy and Wippa on Monday: 'He was having dinner with Nicole Kidman.

'I went up to their table I was about to say something, but before I could get a word in, he just yelled "f**k off". I was shocked at the ferocity of it and I left.'

Rebel went on to say: 'I told that story at a talk show in America [The Tonight Show] and then I ran into Russell in real life.

'He hugged me and then he whispered in my ear, "I thought I told you to f**k off". And I was like, “that’s funny”.'

Rebel also made reference to the Gladiators star in her new comedy, The Hustle, with Anne Hathaway.

'I insulted Anne a lot in that film and she didn’t have many back so I gave her that one,' Rebel told Fitzy and Wippa.

'That’s not really an insult. I think that’s a compliment.'
