Shannen Doherty signs on to star in Beverly Hills 90210 reboot alongside her six original cast members

She played the lead female role in the hit teen drama series Beverly Hills, 90210 in the 1990s.

Now, some two months after a reboot was announced, Shannon Doherty has signed on to star in the Fox miniseries that's set to air this summer.

'Yes it’s official,' she announced to her 1.3 million Instagram followers in the caption of a cast photo from back in the day.

'The real question is.... will we still be rocking those outfits.'

The 48-year old actress, who played the always dramatic Brenda Walsh, joins original co-stars Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green, and Tori Spelling.

Doherty and Luke Perry had been the only two actors out of the original eight actors who weren't on board with the new project.

Sadly, and tragically, Perry passed away in March following a massive stroke.

The series, titled BH90210, has been described as a behind-the-scenes mockudrama of sorts.

The cast will not be playing their characters from the show, but rather a 'heightened versions of themselves.'

The will reportedly be 'inspired by their real lives and relationships' and the show will  contain 'a healthy dose of irreverence.'

'Having gone their separate ways since the original series ended in 2000, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it's time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running. But getting it going may make for more drama than the reboot itself.' Fox said in a press release in February.

'What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast … attempts to continue from where they left off?'

Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler will write and executive produce the new series. Both previously worked on The CW series 90210, which ran for five seasons between 2008 and 2013.

Doherty became a huge television during her four seasons on Beverly Hills, 90210 from 1990 to 1994.

She went on to play Prue Halliwell in the hit series Charmed from 1998 to 2001.

In more recent years, the actress has been battling breast cancer since her diagnosis in 2015. After surgery she underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and eventually announced that her cancer was in remission in April 2017.
