Taking to Instagram last month, Demi revealed she had achieved a blue belt in the martial art.

'2nd degree blue belt!!!!' she wrote alongside a photo of her new stripe.

'This means the world to me and I couldn't be happier. Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a passion of mine and I can’t wait to learn more and more,' she shared with her 71.6 million Instagram followers.

Another shot had her caption: 'Flexion with that blue belt'.

A blue belt is the second in the Brazilian jujitsu sport, following a white.

To receive a blue belt the practitioner must spent countless hours on the mat to learn how to implement and understand the technical moves and techniques.

In December 2018, she took to Twitter to confirm to her fans that she was 'sober and grateful to be alive' following the near death experience.

'I am sober and grateful to be alive and taking care of ME. Someday I'll tell the world what exactly happened, why it happened and what my life is like today.. but until I'm ready to share that with people please stop prying and making up s**t that you know nothing about. I still need space and time to heal..

'I would love to set the record straight on all the rumors out there but I literally don't owe anyone anything so I'm not going to.'

Demi continued: 'All my fans need to know is I'm working hard on myself, I'm happy and clean and I'm SO grateful for their support. I'm so blessed I get to take this time to be with family, relax, work on my mind, body and soul and come back when I'm ready. I have my fans to thank for that. I'm so grateful, truly. I love you guys so f***ing much thank you (sic).'

The Sorry Not Sorry singer's overdose saw her entering rehab for the third time. She had previously entered two alcohol and drug addiction programs over the past ten years.

She first entered the institution back in 2010, at the age of 18, after reportedly punching her backup dancer in the face.

Following the incident, she then embarked upon a self-described 'bender of two months' where she was 'using daily', she confessed in her second documentary; Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated
